Solicitor/Senior Paralegal
Role Purpose
This role is responsible for supporting the Legal Counsel with commercial legal function of the business by:
- Managing and negotiating commercial contract transactions.
- Identifying risk in relation to legal matters and developing and implementing appropriate mitigations.
- Providing compliance and regulatory support where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support to colleagues relating to legal matters, as required.
- Provide support on large commercial transactions including drafting and partaking in some contract negotiation.
- Develop and draft bespoke contract terms where appropriate to reflect the commercial needs of ESP.
- Assess the risk of proposed amendments to ESP and external agreements;
- Liaise with colleagues in the business to obtain information for initial responses to civil litigation claims.
- Take ownership of key-contract management.
- Liaise with and instruct external legal representatives where required.
- Support with GDPR compliance management for the business.
- Liaise with and instruct external legal counsel as required in support of best outcomes for ESP.
- Liaise with external parties to quickly and efficiently identify and secure the necessary legal obligations.
Person Specification
- Experience managing, negotiating and drafting commercial contracts.
- Experience dealing with the legalities of large scale residential and/or commercial developments.
- Strong communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and external parties. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strongly analytical, with well-developed problem-solving skills and proficient with MS Office.
- A good organiser with a natural ability to plan and organise to achieve objectives and targets.
- Experience dealing with easements, deeds of covenants, licences to alter (desirable).
- Ability to use the Land Registry online platform and have understanding of the land registry process requirements (desirable)
- Experience within the energy and/or utility sector (desirable).
Qualifications:
- Qualified Solicitor (or working towards), Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (or working towards) or Senior Paralegal.
