Role: Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Experience level: Senior
Salary: Up to £65k depending on experience

Contract type: Full-time. We offer flexibility of working hours and remote options.

Location: Bristol / Remote (Office attendance 3 days a quarter)

Do you want to work in a fast growing company that has a strong innovative and inclusive culture?

We embrace flexible and hybrid working, give our team unlimited holidays and nurture our employees personal development with regular personal development focused catch-ups.

Our teams work with the best equipment (of their choice) and tools. Every team member receives a monthly development/well-being allowance alongside attending conferences and anything else that they need to help further their skills, experience and career path.

We are looking for a talented Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer with expertise in AWS, Terraform, and Docker to join our team. You will play a role in optimising our software development and deployment processes with your primary focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining highly available and scalable infrastructure on AWS, leveraging Terraform for infrastructure as code, and managing containerised applications using Docker.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable infrastructure on AWS for our web-based applications and APIs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define infrastructure requirements and ensure smooth integration of applications into the deployment pipeline.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to enable automated provisioning and management of resources.
  • Containerise applications using Docker and create Docker images for consistent deployment across different environments.
  • Manage and optimise CI/CD pipelines to automate application builds, tests, and deployments.
  • Monitor application performance, system health, and resource utilisation using AWS and DataDog.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect infrastructure and applications, including IAM policies, security groups, and network configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, deployment, and system reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system architecture, performance, and scalability.
  • Use your expertise to provide thought leadership, and the ability to share knowledge and mentor members of the team if required.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in DevOps, AWS services, Terraform, and Docker, and evaluate their potential applications within the organisation.
  • There are occasions where out of hours support is required outside your contracted hours. This is ad hoc, doesn't happen often and is compensated on top of your salary.

Essential Skills / Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in managing and deploying applications on AWS or similar
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar tools.
  • Expertise in containerisation using Docker
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD practices
  • Knowledge of scripting languages
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols and their application in cloud environments.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools
  • Understanding of security best practices and the ability to implement secure infrastructure configurations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex systems.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Please note: The qualifications and experiences above act as a loose guide to what we're looking for. We'd still love to hear from you if you have more or less experience, so long as the core skills can be demonstrated.
