Job title: Software Team Leader

Salary: Circa £ 60,000 (depending on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ability to effectively organise and run a technical team in an agile environment whilst maintaining a hands on software development role
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex logic, and translate this into useful and reusable design and code artefacts

· Utilise an Agile approach for the creation of new and modified code/test modules as part of a wider product solution

· Lead and/or participate in team meetings and technical discussions

· Provide estimates, status metrics and other pertinent information related to the current and future work items.

· Keep up to date in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective solutions

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Strong software skills, particularly agile methodologies; knowledge of software languages such as C#/Java/Rust
  • Ability to help set the technical direction of the team with problem solving and effective communication skills to line manage the team
  • Familiarity with using and integrating 3rd party software technologies and development of new products

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with technologies such as Microsoft Azure, CI and automated testing, virtualisation and containerisation
  • Previous experience or qualification as a Scrum Master is preferred but not essential

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Combat Systems Team:

As a Software Team Leader you will be supporting the Combat Systems Strategic Projects in exploring new technologies to create, influence and guide future Naval Ships Combat Systems products.

The role will involve both the day-to-day leadership of a scrum team tasked with delivering software packages/applications and performing a software development role within that scrum team.
