Job Title: Software Team Lead

Salary: Circa £65,000 commensurate with skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and manage a team of software engineers, overseeing development activities across multiple project phases
- Collaborate closely with the Project Engineering Manager to align software tasks with wider project goals, budgets, and schedules
- Ensure compliance with software planning, configuration, risk, and quality management processes through the maintenance of key project plans and registers
- Drive continuous improvement through defect prevention, metrics analysis, and process refinement
- Support cross-functional engagement by liaising with other teams, participating in reviews, and contributing to project-wide coordination
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to ensure high performance, motivation, and skills growth
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, and integration, using modern development tools and methodologies
- Practical experience in programming with Ada, C, or C++, preferably within real-time or embedded systems environments
- Proficient in object-oriented design and modelling techniques, including UML, SysML, or XML
- Experience in project planning, task scheduling, and progress reporting within engineering programmes
- Proven ability to deliver complex software solutions that meet customer requirements and integrate with broader system and business needs

The Sampson Radar Software Team:
The Sampson Radar Software team is a 30 personnel group that provides support, and capability upgrades to the Royal Navy and their products. This role will deliver software products to the customer as part of a team delivering enhancements over the next 10 years, as well as providing ongoing support to existing products. You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills and knowledge, with the potential to lead into more senior positions within a global business.
