As the Software Development Manager (SDM) in the Prime Video Financial Systems (FinSys) organization, this role leads the FinSys Payment platform strategy covering country level invoicing requirements of the Amazon-wide finance operations. This includes a set of capabilities to send payments to thousands of Prime Video and cross-digital Partners.

Key job responsibilities
The Software Development Manager will lead and manage a team of software engineers, providing technical leadership and strategic direction for complex software development initiatives. Key responsibilities include overseeing implementation of technical solutions, establishing engineering best practices, and driving operational excellence across the organization. The role involves managing end-to-end software development lifecycle, mentoring and growing engineering talent, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact technical solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting technical vision, managing resource allocation, and ensuring delivery of high-quality software products while maintaining operational metrics. They will also participate in hiring decisions, performance management, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within their team."

A day in the life
Daily activities include conducting team stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospective meetings; reviewing project status and removing blockers; providing guidance on technical decisions; participating in leadership meetings to align on priorities and resource planning. The SDM will regularly review and provide feedback on design documents, conduct 1:1s with team members, manage performance and career development conversations, and coordinate with product managers and other stakeholders on deliverables and timelines. They will monitor team health metrics, capacity planning, and operational excellence indicators while ensuring adherence to engineering standards and best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
