About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and skilled Site Manager to join our talented Rail Team in Crawley. In this role, you will control, manage, and deliver various site-based construction projects. Additionally, you will assist the Senior Project Manager in managing and delivering sections of larger-scale projects within a railway environment.

** Our projects are located from Exeter to Norwich, so the successful candidate should be willing to travel and supervise work in those areas. Ideally, the candidate should live within a commutable distance from our Crawley depot **

What you'll be doing

  • Responsible for the successful completion of the section of works or overall project, leading by example and managing the day-to-day delivery of construction projects.
  • Ensure all team members are fully inducted and carry out role-specific requirements, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensuring all site have adequate plans and task briefing sheets for the works.
  • Responsible for quality in relation to track back and raising and removing speeds.
  • Draw up and monitor short-term programmes.
  • Maintain accurate progress records.
  • Deliver regular Toolbox Talks.
  • Ensure site audits are undertaken and take appropriate action on the findings.
  • Manage sub-contractors, including monitoring their attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary.
  • Maintain awareness of budget, cost control, and cost recovery, ensuring that expenditure aligns with the contract budget and that resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Read a general arrangement drawing and understand Microsoft project programmes.
  • Responsible for documenting works complete and sending out reports.
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments if required.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience in Site Management or Assistant Site Management on Railway infrastructure projects.
  • A successful track record in managing operational delivery within a construction or construction-related environment.
  • SSSTS and SMSTS qualifications (desirable) or willingness to attend training if not already qualified.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid certification.
  • Strong communication skills, with good interpersonal and influencing abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, with a flexible attitude towards managing a variable and demanding workload.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (MS Word, Excel).
  • Good working knowledge of current H&S legislation, including Network Rail book and standards.
  • Flexibility to work nights and some weekends.
  • Driving licence (essential).
  • COSS certification or willingness to take the course.
