Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Staff Management

General staff management, including maintenance of high standards of performance and conduct in line with Trust procedures.

Recruitment and selection of staff and efficient staff deployment.

To ensure that all staff are trained to maintain safe standards of performance as per Trust Policies and Procedures and to ensure that adequate training records are kept.

To liaise with the Laundry Production Manager to develop and implement policies and procedures where necessary to continually improve quality in all areas.

To maintain effective staffing through the compilation of daily rotas, judicious authorisation of annual leave and the allocation of work within the Department.

To hand over information accurately and keep the Laundry Production Manager fully briefed on on-going activities and updates.

To set standards of discipline and appearance.

To support unit managers with disciplinary and human resources matters.

To develop good lines of communication and relationships at all levels within your team and with multi-professional colleagues and customers.

To provide leadership and motivation and encourage teamwork.

To assist the Laundry Production Manager in setting up, monitoring and maintaining individual training and development portfolios for your team.

To manage staff in line with Trust HR procedures.

To manage the production of rotas, covering arrangements and booking annual leave in line with Trust procedure.

To ensure the accurate completion of E-rostering inputting for pay purposes.

To conduct appraisal interviews and reviews with Team Leaders.

To liaise with the Laundry Production Manager to identify and implement training needs and to contribute in the planning of the annual training plan.

To ensure accurate records of staff attendance are kept.

Performance Management

To ensure that health, safety and hygiene is maintained as per the Trust's policies and procedures.

To undertake service planning, monitoring and reporting.

To maintain high standards of service and customer care.

To compile monthly reports and information required by the Laundry Production Manager

To be responsible for the direct management control and organisation of staff and activities involved in the delivery of patients catering service.

To liaise with staff at ward level concerning all aspects of the laundry production service and to maintain a regular ward visitation programme to measure objectively the service required.

To act on any shortfall identified on the service provided.

To monitor all required laundry audits

Adhere to and enforce Trust Policies

To ensure the security of the premises, materials, provisions and equipment.

To ensure the Laundry Policy and Safety Management Systems are adhered to and audit checks are actioned and replied to within a reasonable time.

To liaise with the Laundry Production Manager in maintaining the Laundry's RABC Procedures.

To constantly seek new ways to improve the laundry's production efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Work closely with the drivers to ensure smooth delivery and collections of clean and dirty linen

To establish a process of efficient production of linen to ensure the Trust receives good quality linen in quantities that meet the needs of the patients

Leadership

To ensure all staff are suitably trained and motivated in line with the Trust's Human Resources Policies to deliver high standards of service.

To enhance the performance and capabilities of staff through appraisal, personal development, objective setting and handle all disciplinary and grievance matters with respect to the laundry working in accordance with the Trust's Policies.

To agree, plan and ensure annual training plans are met and evaluated for staff.

Develop a positive inclusive relationship with Trade Unions and staff representatives.

Deputise for the Laundry Production Manger as appropriate.

To provide visible leadership to team leaders and staff within the area and promote team work and co-operation amongst managers within their departments.

Comply with the role within the 14065 allocated to this post, to ensure the monitoring of the requirements are undertaken and documented as described in the standard.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ 3 Supervisory & Management
  • Professional Hotel Services and Business Management knowledge to degree equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • In-depth knowledge of working practices and procedures for providing a Linen Service, e.g., Infection Control. This knowledge is gained through practical experience.
  • Working in a similar first line management role
  • Experience of undertaking staff appraisals
  • Experience of undertaking staff appraisals
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of linen and laundry legislation and best practice

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria

  • Communication, which may be complex at times, with providers and users of the Service using a sympathetic & understand approach
  • Resolving problems/concerns using tact and diplomacy
  • Simplifying information for service users and staff to ensure it is understood

Analytical & Judgement

Essential criteria

  • Experience of and ability to resolve problems relating to Linen Services, such as staffing levels, equipment failure, infections. These situations often have more than one option to consider.
  • Able to make decisions quickly, that may have an effect on staff, visitors and patients, and other departments.
  • Ability to think laterally, identify and evaluate options to prevent and implement workable solutions to complex service issues.

Planning & Organisation

Essential criteria

  • Planning and delivery of a number of services in liaison with service users and providers and contractors.
  • Lead on projects to deliver Trust wide service improvements/development
  • Experience of advance planning of staff rotas and managing staff annual leave.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
