Job Description

Wincanton are looking for a Shift Operations Manager to join a small and well established team at our B&Q distribution centre in Cambuslang, Glasgow.

Reporting to the GM, this is a multi-functional role, equally spanning three areas of site operations, as detailed below.

Working any 5 days from 7, but usually Monday to Friday, the salary for this role is £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.

Stock Admin Manager

  • To ensure the induction, training and development of all team members and that accurate records are kept updated.
  • Interface with all customers, internal and external, on operational issues in a professional manner.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation within the admin department, working closely with the other departments to ensure operational crossover areas are managed collectively and with a focus on operational excellence.

H&S Champion

  • Liaise with Site Management Team to identify and prioritise training needs for new and existing employees across the contract and co-ordinate a training plan to meet short and long term needs.
  • Keep accurate and concise records.
  • To assist, co-ordinate internal training activities for all new and existing colleagues on site, ensuring training needs for all areas are met to the required H&S specification.
  • To assist providing a comprehensive induction program to all new employees, including agency staff.
  • Ensure all accidents are investigated and closed off.
  • To maintain site standards and safe working practices.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure trainers complete Risk Assessments.

Shift Manager

  • To support only in the absence of existing Shift Managers, for example, holiday and sickness periods in managing aspects of the operations shift, ensuring that the agreed levels of customer service are achieved within budget costs, company policy and that all legal obligations are met.
  • Responsible for the performance, development, and motivation of an operational team, in the absence of the Shift Manager.

Experience, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Experience of working in a distribution centre or similar environment.
  • Experience of managing people.
  • Experience of generating SSOW and Risk Assessments would be ideal, some health and safety exposure as a minimum.
  • NEBOSH general certificate is not essential, an opportunity to gain the qualification is offered with the role.
  • Demonstrate drive, energy, and a commitment to the continuous improvement of overall contract performance.
  • Have strong admin, organisation, and PC skills.
  • Excellent customer relationship skills with the ability to develop good working relationships at all levels.
  • Be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining high standards.
