Job Title - SHEQ Manager - Northern region (including Scotland)
Location - The role will require travel to various locations across the country

Responsible for:
We are seeking a proactive and experienced SHEQ Manager to oversee and maintain compliance with SHEQ regulations and standards across our operations. This role does not involve managing a team but requires a hands-on approach to ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, environment, sustainability and quality are embedded throughout the organisation.
The applicant must have a minimum of five years' experience within a SHEQ role and hold a NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
The Safety Manager will oversee health and safety compliance across various sites throughout the UK. This role requires frequent travel and a strong presence on-site to conduct inspections, provide guidance, and ensure the highest safety standards are maintained. Excellent communication skills are essential for engaging with site teams and contractors, to promote a strong safety culture.
Main Key Responsibilities:
Site Inspections and Audits:
Conduct regular site visits across the UK to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Identify potential hazards and risks, implementing corrective actions where necessary. Produce detailed reports on site safety performance, audits, and recommendations for improvements.
Policy Implementation and Compliance:
Ensure adherence to UK health and safety legislation Support the implementation and maintenance of health and safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001). Review and update site-specific safety documentation, such as risk assessments and method statements.
Incident Investigation:
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Training and Engagement:
Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions to on-site personnel. Promote a culture of safety by engaging with site teams and contractors, function as the primary point of contact for safety-related queries, providing practical advice and solutions onsite.
Collaboration and Communication:
Build strong relationships with site teams, contractors, and project managers to ensure safety is prioritised. Clearly communicate safety expectations, policies, and best practices in a professional manner. Represent the company during client meetings and with external bodies when required.
Must have:
- Full driving license.
- Two plus years' Health and Safety experience desirably within the water, engineering, fabrication industry, preferably clean/wastewater, water utilities or a similar. Understanding of the risks associated within these industries.
- NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Working knowledge on the implementation of Health and Safety laws.
- Exposure to ISO standards and auditing (ISO 45001, 9001, 14001 etc).
- Experience with conducting on site 'Boots on the Ground' site inspections.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, who is a collaborator and can collaboratively support others, whilst forming good working relationships across all levels of the business and with external partners. Experienced with employee and contractor on site engagement. Solution orientated.
- Incident investigation experience.
- Experience with the applications of the CDM Regulations and writing and reviewing RAMS.
- Experience of delivering inductions, behavioural safety programmes, in house training initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office, ability to prepare Excel spreadsheets, reports in Word and presentations in PowerPoint.
Must be willing to:
- Work away from home with overnight stays, travelling to sites throughout the UK including (Scotland if Northern Manager) weekly. Work activity will be predominantly out on site at various locations. At times, to cover other SHEQ Manager and the Head of SHEQ workload when they are not available.
Desirable qualifications:
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate, or IEMA Environmental or equivalent.
- Understanding of Environment and Energy laws
- Experience of ISO 45001, 9001, 14001 and 50001.

Further Key Duties:
- To perform duties in accordance with all applicable health and safety legislation, ensuring compliance.
- Core duty - 'Boots on the Ground' - Conduct daily SHEQ site inspections within the UK including (Scotland if Northern Manager) ensuring adherence to established procedures, legislation. Identifying areas for improvement, whilst driving and actively promoting a positive and proactive safety culture across the organisation, though engaging, building relationships, advising, supporting, and mentoring the workforce. To be solution orientated and monitor the implementation of control measures identified on site and within our premises.
- Be prepared to work in confined spaces and to work at height, as well as to travel to remote place to be with our employees out on site.
- Support and mentor management and their teams out on site with their SHEQ compliance. Such as supporting them with their RAMS, safe systems of work, CDM, work activities etc.
- Advise, support, and nurture our Safety Representatives and Green Champions. Lead them to greater achievements with SHEQ.
- Deliver and manage the SHEQ and Energy induction, other training programmes, including customers inductions.
- Work collaboratively with the SHEQ Manager and the wider management teams to manage the company's SHEQ ISO's. Provide cover for the SHEQ Manager and the other SHEQ Advisor, during their absences.
- Facilitate external auditors with site visits, auditing, and the gathering of information, when required.
- Promote best practice in SHEQ and Energy matters.
- Investigate, report on and record near misses, incidents and be part of the incident investigation team. Ensure the business's reporting software is completed and extract data as required.
- Monitor the Non-Conformance Quality register.
- Work collaboratively with administration teams ensuring first aid and fire safety compliance.
- Create and organise SHEQ and Energy awareness events, workshops, training, campaigns.
- As and when directed by the SHEQ Manager, organise purposeful and engaging SHEQ forums, workshops, meetings and when required, attend scheduled meetings.
- Maintain a working knowledge of relevant legislation and any developments that may affect the industry.
- When requested by the Head of SHEQ, write, review, and analyse reports and metrics.
- Keep accurate records, input data for statistical analysis and reporting. Manage and maintain certain databases.
- Attend training as and when required.
- Other duties which the company may require the individual to undertake.
