Job title: SHE Associate

Location: Barrow-in-Furness. Onsite

Salary: Circa £37,000

What you’ll be doing:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) practices within an engineering / manufacturing environment under appropriate supervision

  • Complete all required SHE foundation training with guidance from supervision

  • Develop role-specific competencies through structured on-the-job learning and practical experience

  • Assist SHE function team members in the implementation of safety, health and environmental programs

  • Undertake selected tasks typically performed by higher graded SHE roles as part of professional development and preparation for increased responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of assigned activities, providing regular updates and reports to relevant stakeholders, including supervisory personnel

  • Contribute to the development and promotion of a strong safety culture within the Submarines business, actively supporting the SHE improvement programme

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience of working in potentially high-risk environments / and or demonstrate transferrable skills and experience

  • Assist and positively influence stakeholders in their planning, management, monitoring, investigation and assurance activities

  • Ensure compliance and continuous improvement in SHE and wellbeing

  • Practical experience of supporting management of Health and Safety risks and / or processes in a high-risk environment

The role holder is required to gain one or more of the following QCF / NQF level 3 qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

  • Level 3 NVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Practice

  • NEBOSH or IEMA Certificate in Environment Management

  • Equivalent qualifications in Safety, Health and / or Environment subject

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent

  • Audit and investigation skills

The SHE Team:

This position is designed to support the development of individuals entering the Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) profession, particularly those with transferrable skills seeking to progress into SHE Advisor roles. As a SHE Associate, you will play a vital role in promoting and maintain a safe and healthy working environment, contributing to on the UK’s most advanced engineering programmes – the construction and delivery of Nuclear Submarines. You’ll gain valuable experience while providing professional SHE advice in a highly regulated and technical complex setting. We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
