Job overview
Oncology and Palliative care directorate is seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated and confident Service Manager.
The successful candidate should have previous administration experience, excellent communication skills, be proficient with varied IT systems and have analytical skills. The post holder must also be able to work well within a team.
This role is for 12 months maternity leave cover and accountable to the Deputy General Manager.
The Service Manager will be responsible for the operational management and the effective and efficient delivery of services provided within Oncology and Palliative Care, in support of the General Manager (GM), Deputy General Manager (DGM), Clinical Director (CD), and Heads of Service ensuring effective co-ordination and management of budgets and agreed national or local performance objectives and contracts.
You will be self-motivated and able to work autonomously at pace. You will be effective in managing your time, workload and priorities. You will be highly analytical and confident to challenge the status quo while building excellent working relationships that quickly enable you to become a trusted and credible leader across all staff groups. You will be focused on outcomes and motivated by your drive to deliver the highest quality care while ensuring the best possible patient experience. Someone who can think on their feet, balance the needs of multiple services and has aspirations for advancement.
Main duties of the job
- Assisting the Deputy General Manager in developing, supporting and implementing plans for service improvement.
- Delivering an efficient administrative service throughout the patient pathway of care by effective management of the administration staff.
- Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of services in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.

- A demonstrable capacity and capability for operational/clinical service management at mid-level in an acute hospital environment or similarly complex organisation, including staff management, financial management and change management.
- Demonstrable success in delivering change and performance with and through your teams, by engaging them in development and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, monitoring performance and giving feedback.
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

- Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions to address them.
- Business acumen, pragmatism and skilled in assessing potential risks and opportunities.
- IT literate with ability to use all Microsoft Office applications to deliver the requirements of the role
