The Role

Series Producer

ITV Border

Permanent

Office location: Edinburgh

Hiring range: £47,000 - £57,000

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to head our highly respected current affairs programme Representing Border - the political programme for the south of Scotland.

With the Scottish Parliament election taking place in May it's going to be a busy and demanding year.

We're looking for a senior broadcast journalist with thorough knowledge of UK and Scottish politics.

The Series Producer leads a small team based inside the Scottish Parliament which makes the fast turnaround political programme Representing Border.

The late-night show is broadcast to a loyal audience in the south of Scotland. It is produced nightly when the Scottish Parliament sits. Single issue programmes, including party conferences and elections, are also produced throughout the year. The team also provides coverage to ITV Border's regional news programme, Lookaround and contributes political news and insight across multi-platform.

As Series Producer you will be a talented television journalist with an exemplary knowledge of Scottish and UK politics, an excellent contacts book and a proven track record in news and current affairs production. You will have a confident knowledge of

the Ofcom Code and media law.

You will lead and manage the Edinburgh political unit and experience of managing people and budgets will be an advantage. You will work closely with the Managing Editor of ITV Border to ensure that programme targets are met on time and on budget and that all content is fair, impartial and compliant.

Being inclusive and representative is important to us and we are especially keen to increase the numbers and prominence of stories and contributors from underrepresented communities.

You will need to remain calm under pressure, work accurately at speed, and be able to deal with last minute changes and breaking news, working late into the evening.

If you love a fast-paced environment where every day is different, and you have the journalistic skills that will help us achieve our goals, then we'd love to hear from you.

Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)

  • Experience of producing a quick turnaround, news-style programme.
  • Highly developed script writing skills
  • Understanding and knowledge of Scottish Government affairs and politics
  • Proven experience in a television newsroom
  • Detailed knowledge of Ofcom regulations, Scottish law and an ability to make informed legal judgements

Other things we're looking for (key criteria)

  • Excellent editorial judgement and an ability to make sound editorial decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrable experience of being able to research, set up, film and edit packages for the programme, ensuring a smooth workflow and delivering items on time.
  • Excellent editorial, ethical and legal judgement, maintaining professional journalistic standards and adhering to ITVs legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support and help produce online content supporting the series, across a range of platforms.
  • To provide original story ideas
  • To maintain and enhance ITV Border's commitment to representing diverse communities by finding new voices.
  • To work closely with the ITV Border news team to support the daily needs of the news programme.
  • A good team player with a positive approach to problem solving

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is at the heart of what we do at ITV Border and we want to ensure we reflect our audience both on screen and in our workforce. ITV is for Everyone and we encourage applications from Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent people and People of Colour to apply for this role.

Newsrooms are busy and pressurised environments, involving live news production, which often requires colleagues to make quick decisions under pressure. We also need people who are able to use their initiative and, particularly for editorial roles, know what information might be required and how to research it.

We need to test these abilities at the interview stage to understand how candidates will react when operating in a pressurised environment. This is a fundamental requirement of the role. We will always consider any request for reasonable adjustments as part of the interview process, for example sharing key themes when that is requested in connection with a neurodivergent condition, whilst still ensuring that we are able to test a candidate's ability to operate in the specific environment of a newsroom.

Closing date: Sunday 15th February 2026

Please note the notice period for this role is 2 months (this will include any new contracts/ secondments)
