Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised higher education qualification in a computing or related discipline e.g. 1st Degree, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience working at a Senior/Specialist Engineers level
- Recognised Industry qualification e.g Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
- Other industry qualifications (e.g. CCNP Security, CCNP Data Centre)
- Formal project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2).
- ICT service qualifications (e.g. ITIL).
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced Senior/Specialist Engineer in Data networking and telecommunications/telephony systems. Experience of supporting complex Data and Voice infrastructures to an advanced level.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of data networking and telecommunications/telephony technologies, methods, and principles to an advanced level.
- Experience of co-ordinating, and contributing to ICT projects.
- Significant experience working in an operational and service environment in a large corporate environment.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of data networking and telecommunications/telephony technologies, methods, and principles to an advanced level.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Experience of project management and systems development.
- Experience in ICT infrastructure strategy and planning.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate highly complex ideas effectively at all levels.
- Ability to write and maintain highly complex technical reports, operational procedures and system documentation sets in an accurate, concise and clear manner.
- Ability to analyse complex and multi-stranded technical problems that may have no precedent, in order to initiate the most appropriate corrective action.
- Must have advanced IT/Keyboard skills demonstrable across Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
- Ability to direct and conduct research into ICT issues, systems and products as required.
- Ability to assimilate highly complex information over a range of technical specialities.
- Ability to effectively plan, prioritise, and execute tasks in a high pressure environment.
- Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Local and wide area networking topologies and theory. Cisco IOS, Microsoft OS.
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Network device technologies and configuration (e.g. switch, bridge, router).
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Ethernet networking standards and network data protocols (e.g. TCP/IP).
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Voice communications technologies.
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Network security systems and procedures.
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Wireless data communications technologies.
- Possesses a highly developed and specialist knowledge gained by experience and training in Data Centre technologies
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of NHS Wales and LHB information and communications technology standards and requirements.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of both local and national NHS ICT developments and strategies.
- Full knowledge of NHS IT security policies and procedures.
- Good knowledge of organisations goals and objectives.
