Senior Vetting Advisor - Hybrid Working

Our Vetting department's main responsibility is to mitigate the risk of workers exploiting their position for unauthorised purposes. Avon and Somerset Police requires everyone working within and in partnership with the police service to undergo various levels of vetting checks.
It is vital that appropriate vetting is carried out in order to ensure the integrity of our workforce. The work of the Vetting team provides the first line of defence in protecting the integrity of the police service, its assets and staff.
As the Senior Vetting Advisor you will be responsible for managing a team of Vetting Researchers who are processing vetting applications in accordance with the Vetting Code of Practice and Authorised Professional Practice (APP). You will also contribute to the effective running of the department through implementation and management of vetting practice and policies including quality assurance.
Main responsibilities include;
- Manage the performance of the team, allocating caseloads to Vetting Officers, overseeing decisions of vetting applications to ensure delivery of a timely and efficient service
- Manage complex or contentious cases to deliver appropriate risk-based vetting decisions.
- Arrange and facilitate applicant interviews to clarify information, examine documentation and ensure rationale of vetting decisions
- Be knowledgeable in the latest policy and legislation, ensuring team members have correct awareness of vetting practices.
- Represent Avon and Somerset Police at regional meetings with other police forces, exchanging information and contribute to the realigning of local vetting procedures.
Skills and experience required:
- Skills in research, consultation and analysis of information from multiple sources to make accurate decisions and provide advice on complex cases
- Experience of leading/managing teams in a professional environment and against a background of competing priorities and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Involvement in implementing new policies and procedures in the workplace
- Knowledge and understanding of vetting practices and relevant legislation such as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and Data Protection is desirable

Additional information:
In this role you will be able to work flexibly, core hours are typically Monday - Friday 8-4pm or 9-5pm, working patterns will be agreed with the successful candidate.
This is a blended/hybrid role, working from home and from Police Headquarters, details of which will be agreed with the successful candidate.
Interviews are expected to take place week commencing Monday 11th November 2024
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year 'checkable history' in the UK - ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years.
Please note that we have recently received confirmation that a 4.75% pay increase for police staff roles has been agreed for 2024/25. From the 1st September 2024 all our pay points will increase by this amount. The salary currently shown on this job advert does not include this increase. This role has been identified as a blended role.The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises. The successful applicant will have the option to discuss working arrangements with their line manager. All applicants must reside within the UK.
