About the Role:
As the Specialty Treaty Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the Global Reinsurance Specialty placement process, including preparing reinsurance submissions, designing/analysing/evaluating reinsurance structures, and developing marketing materials.
The Specialty Treaty Manager will perform general market research and analysis on LMI's insurance portfolio(s) to develop/support reinsurance placement terms and conditions. You will work closely with leaders in the Strategic Business divisions, Corporate Finance, Legal, Exposure Management, Brokers, and Reinsurers.
About the Department & Team:
The role forms part of the Global Internal Re Underwriting team, reporting through Global Reinsurance in the Corporate Finance Comptroller Group.
This department manages the internal reinsurance portfolio of P&C and Specialty lines, underwriting affiliated Liberty Group companies' treaties on behalf of Group or SBU Reinsurance vehicles as part of the Global Reinsurance Strategy. The role will also act cross-functional across first and third-party treaties on a global basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the analysis, design, and execution of internal and external reinsurance placements through collaboration with internal groups and external brokers
- Individually, or in conjunction with other internal and/or external resources, conducts market research and analyses financial and strategic merits of insurance and reinsurance strategic opportunities
- Prepare executive presentations describing the structure, strategic fit, and potential financial impact of various opportunities.
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycles to drive and enhance business performance
- Underwrite internal reinsurance treaties in accordance with the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives,
- Negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business
- Compliance with the production and issue of documentation in accordance with contract certainty requirements
- Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance
- Lead projects of moderate to high scope and complexity. Communicates project opportunities and constraints to management while monitoring project status. Assists in the project management of reinsurance transactions and other opportunities, including structuring, risk and financial analysis, and marketing. Establish broker and reinsurer relationships to align interests and opportunities across the firms
- Find opportunities to improve processes, controls, data management, and strategies
- Provide support and mentorship to internal departments regarding reinsurance audits, accounting matters, and compliance
- Works under limited direction from manager on more complex tasks. Provides guidance to less experienced staff.

Skills and Experience:
- Deep understanding of the risk characteristics of insurance and reinsurance products.
- Proven understanding of basic financial concepts and metrics
- Effective communication skills for writing reports/proposals and making presentations.
- Ability to work independently and lead others during projects.
- Strong problem solving, analytical, critical thinking
- Numeracy and literacy skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills, including relationship management
- Negotiation skills
- Ability to analyse and use data for decision making
- Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and catastrophe models (preferred but not essential)
