About us
The London Borough of Camden is a leader in sustainable transport. We consistently push the boundaries of what is possible to create a cleaner and safer borough, as well as city centre - whether it is pedestrianisation of Camden High Street, award-winning central London schemes such as the West End Project, Healthy School Streets, or our progressive parking policies.
At Camden, we're not just designing streets - we're reshaping the way people live, move and connect. We're building a borough where walking, cycling, and sustainable travel are the norm, not the exception. This is your chance to be part of an ambitious and forward-thinking team making radical social change a reality.
The role
As a Senior Transport Planner, you would help deliver on the ambitious goals of the Camden Transport Strategy, by delivering neighbourhood-based Healthy Streets projects, from localised safety schemes and Healthy School Streets (HSS) to low-traffic neighbourhood initiatives.
The Safe & Healthy Streets team at Camden is at the forefront of Healthy Streets based project delivery and in the recentHealthy Streets Scorecard Camden was the third placed borough overall. An overview of the schemes that the Healthy Streets team Camden have delivered between 22/23 - 24/25 is available here
In this role you will be responsible for project managing the development and implementation of multiple small to medium size "Healthy Streets" projects within neighbourhoods across Camden. The role will also support Principal officers in the team with high quality programme and project management support, such as on projects like the pedestrianisation of Camden High Street.
These Healthy Streets projects focused on localised road safety, bus priority, walking, cycling, traffic reduction and public realm improvement. For examples of some the types of schemes you could be leading on in this role please see the following schemes Camden is currently consulting on or constructing:
Fitzrovia Phase 1 Status: nearing construction
St George The Martyr (HSS) Status: consultation complete
King Henrys Road Area Status: nearing construction
The Senior Transport Planner would be responsible for all aspects of project delivery, ensuring that schemes are delivered on time and to budget. This includes project planning, feasibility and optioneering, community engagement & consultation, report writing, stakeholder management, monitoring, funding, budgeting and financial controls. Thinking innovatively about how Healthy Streets projects can support wider improvements to our public realm and the climate emergency, urban greening, and so on, is a key part of the role.
The Senior Transport Planner will work across departments, with colleagues from planning, regeneration and sustainability, highways, parking and more. This will help ensure that neighbourhood-based Healthy Streets projects support and contribute to wider urban planning and sustainability initiatives, such as the regeneration of our estates and fulfilment of the goals in Camden's Climate Action Plan.
You'll also play a key role in shaping how these projects connect to Camden's wider goals - from tackling the climate emergency to creating vibrant public spaces. Collaborating with internal teams, Transport for London, the GLA and local communities will be at the heart of your work.
