Senior Transactional Counsel (Estates)

Vision: To be the UK's leading digital infrastructure partner, enabling a fully connected future
Mission: Deliver reliable, high quality site access, infrastructure and services that support our customers' evolving connectivity needs.

For almost two decades, Cornerstone's infrastructure has quietly supported the UK's mobile networks. Whilst we continue to strengthen that foundation and extend its reach, we're in an exciting period of acceleration and transformation that will see us enable more connectivity and compute to more communities and industries across the UK.

The Role
To lead the transactional arm of the Legal & Compliance Team, driving the delivery of high-volume telecoms property transactions while developing a high-performing team of Transactional Property Counsel.

This is a highly visible leadership role that combines people management, operational oversight and hands-on legal expertise. You'll be responsible for ensuring the efficient, consistent and commercially focused delivery of property transactions that support Cornerstone's strategic estates objectives. Acting as a key interface between Legal, Estates and external stakeholders, you'll play a critical role in enabling the successful delivery of one of the UK's largest digital infrastructure portfolios.

Why This Role Matters
This is a high-impact role at a pivotal point in Cornerstone's evolution. As demand for digital connectivity continues to grow, the ability to secure and manage property rights efficiently and effectively is fundamental to delivering our infrastructure ambitions.

This role will lead the team responsible for some of the business's most important transactional activity, balancing legal risk management with commercial delivery. It's an opportunity to shape how Cornerstone manages complex property transactions at scale, drive continuous improvement across legal processes and build a high-performing team that helps accelerate business outcomes.

For someone who enjoys combining leadership, legal expertise and operational excellence, this role offers the chance to make a measurable contribution to both business performance and long-term growth.

What You'll Do
⚖️ Lead and develop a team of Transactional Property Counsel, creating a high-performing, collaborative culture focused on quality, consistency and delivery.
Oversee the allocation and management of transactional caseloads, ensuring performance targets, timelines and programme objectives are achieved.
️ Personally lead a portfolio of complex and strategic property transactions, including Code Agreements, leases, licences and freehold acquisitions.
Provide technical guidance and support on complex negotiations, escalation issues and commercial decision-making across the team.
Ensure transactions are delivered in accordance with agreed Heads of Terms, legal frameworks and internal governance requirements.
Drive standardisation, efficiency and continuous improvement across transactional processes, templates, playbooks and ways of working.
Act as a trusted legal partner to Estates leadership and delivery teams, providing pragmatic advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives.
Monitor transaction performance, delivery timelines, risks and blockers, using data and insight to improve outcomes and inform decision-making.
Strengthen legal governance and risk management by ensuring consistent application of controls, policies and best practice.
Contribute to wider Legal & Compliance initiatives, including knowledge sharing, supplier engagement, training and cross-functional projects.

What You'll Bring
You'll be a qualified solicitor with strong expertise in commercial property law and conveyancing, combined with experience leading or supervising legal professionals in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
You'll be equally comfortable managing strategic priorities and getting involved in complex transactional work, providing practical legal advice that supports business objectives while maintaining appropriate risk controls. With a strong commercial mindset, you'll understand how to balance legal considerations with operational needs, helping to drive timely and effective outcomes.

You'll also bring:

Significant experience advising on landlord and tenant matters and freehold acquisitions
Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop and motivate legal professionals
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across legal, commercial and operational teams
Excellent negotiation skills and the confidence to navigate complex legal and commercial discussions
Experience operating in high-volume transactional environments with competing priorities
A proactive approach to process improvement, standardisation and operational excellence
