Overview

Wincanton operate the transport network on behalf of Halfords, the UK's leading provider of motoring and cycling products and services.

Our operation transports over 63.5 million items per year from the retailer's three distribution centres to its network of nearly 400 stores across the UK and Ireland.

Working close with the Operations Managers at our Coventry distribution centre, the Senior Transport Operator will coordinate, supervise and report upon the work activities of a team; providing effective communication, leadership and motivation.

Main duties will include allocation of work and de-briefing all drivers on return. Identifying and managing infringements, analysing drivers print-offs, monitoring completion of delivery paperwork, managing communication and escalation of issues.

How will you contribute?

• Management of the team, including transport office admin and drivers
• Ensure a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for all
• Deliver driver performance reviews
• Manage investigations in line with HR Policy
• Ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures
• Ensure company policies are communicated, applied and enforced
• Plan workload and manage resource
• Management of defect process, VOR's and breakdowns
• Ensuring the accident management process is adhered to
• Dealing with day-to-day queries and driver issues
• Allocate work to all drivers
• De-brief drivers
• Manage driver and road compliance and working time legislation
• Complete vehicle accident reports with drivers as appropriate
• Ensure a leadership approach where issues raised are followed up in a timely manner
• Ensure daily communication of all delivery shortages/overs
• To complete vehicle inspections for general hygiene
• Ensure all issues are escalated to the Managers, when required

What will you bring?

• Experience of working in a Transport operation
• Knowledge of transport legislation including working time and driver hours
• Experience of managing a team (desirable)
• Experience of grievance and disciplinary investigation (desirable)
• Flexibility to meet the customers requirements and operational needs
• Good analytical and numerical skills
• Computer literate
• Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership and motivations
