Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive team and learn valuable new skills. You will need to have effective communication skills to liaise with other members of the MDT, patients, their relatives and outside agencies.

You will directly support the delivery of therapy to patients, manage your own caseload as identified during the morning handover, support therapy assistants in the prioritisation and organisation of their patient caseload, feedback patient responses to treatment or any changes in their condition to their therapist and measure for/provide any equipment required for discharge.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • To communicate and collaborate with all Core Therapies Service stakeholders
  • To support personal and people development
  • To help to ensure the health, safety and security of users of the Core Therapies, self and colleagues
  • To support service development and planning
  • To support the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda within Core Therapies
  • To support equality of opportunity and access within the Core Therapies for both staff and patients
  • To support financial and other resource management within the Core Therapies
  • To provide and use information to support admin processes and patient care
  • To directly support the delivery of therapy to patients

When you're not treating patients you'll have the opportunity to attend the therapy assistant forum where you will meet other therapy assistants working for the trust. The forum is a great place to discuss potential for development and provides an opportunity for training from guest speakers and staff in other areas of the Trust. There is also in-service cognitive training within the department led by the Core Therapies Occupational Therapy Team.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

  • GCSE Maths & English grade C or above / Grade 4 - 9 OR Functional/Key skills level 2 numeracy and Functional/Key Skills level 2 literacy
  • Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards on employment

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in relevant area
  • Clinical skills/care certificate

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous experience of working in a health care or related setting
  • Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality
  • Experience of working effectively within a team
  • Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
  • Understanding of the role of a band 3 senior therapy assistant
  • Experience of working with the public

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within an NHS Occupational therapy or physiotherapy department

Please note a young person must be in part-time education or training until they're 18. therefore if you are under 18 we are unable to employ you on a full time basis, unless it is in an apprenticeship role.

If the role you've applied for requires a Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) check we will administer this on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment, or over 3 months. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered. Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £22, Standard DBS check £22 and Enhanced DBS check £42. You should be aware that if you are successful in obtaining a position that requires a DBS check but later withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
