Senior Technician - Veterinary Sciences

The University of Central Lancashire wishes to recruit a Senior Technician to join our Technical Services team who provide support to the wide variety of laboratory facilities at our Preston campus. The successful candidate will be primarily focused on supporting Undergraduate and Postgraduate veterinary/laboratory activities within our state-of-the-art science laboratory and clinical facilities in our new School of Veterinary Science. This is a fixed term contract to cover parental leave for 12 months or until the return of the substantive post holder.

Duties include being the technical lead and primary contact for the coordination and running of one or more laboratory, anatomy, and clinical skills facilities, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources in designated areas. The post holder will provide help, support, guidance and advice through demonstrations or inductions to staff and/or students in a group or individually, on the use of equipment and the skills, techniques and procedures associated with the practical use of equipment related to veterinary science.

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level in Veterinary Science or have equivalent experiential learning and be a practical person with a keen interest in science and technology. They will be IT literate and have a working knowledge of veterinary equipment, supported by great customer service skills and have excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with colleagues, staff and students. A degree of manual handling may be involved in the role e.g. lifting and carrying clinical/veterinary equipment, and a flexible approach is required to weekly working patterns due to the student timetable.
