Main duties of the job

To assist the Lead QA technician and the Aseptic Services accountable pharmacist to develop the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS) for Aseptic Services including but not limited to document control systems, deviation management and quality review.

To carry out Quality control (QC) for all imported or outsourced products compounded by Specials Manufacturing Aseptic Unit external to the Trust.

To work within defined standard operating procedures where work is managed rather than supervised by the Lead QA technician or the Aseptic Services accountable pharmacist.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard for Science Manufacturing Technician)
  • Registered as a Pharmaceutical Technician with a professional body (such as GPhC or equivalent recognised by the Science Council)

Desirable criteria

  • Recognised Accredited Aseptic Technician Checking Qualification for Pre and In-process Checking and Final Product Approval and Release (Accreditation will be provided as part of post if not already achieved).
  • Accredited checking pharmacy technician (ACT) or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of external accredited course in Technical Services, Quality Assurance or relevant area.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant post qualification experience including hospital pharmacy.
  • Experience at any grade in aseptic services or dispensary.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in aspects of quality assurance relevant to the post
  • Experience training staff.

If this job requires you to have DBS check to enable you to properly fulfil the requirements of the job, on appointment, you will be required to replay the cost of obtaining a DBS check and this amount will be reclaimed in instalments from your salary.
