Description
As a Senior Technical Character Artist here at BARB you will work alongside a talented Art team driving forwards cutting-edge visuals, investigating and resolving issues, providing technical guidance, and defining art workflow and pipelines.
Applying an excellent understanding of the technical process combined with the key fundamentals of anatomy and design, you will work closely with the Lead Character Artist and Art Directors, to set a high bar while helping to manage and enable the teams around you.
Key Responsibilities

- Work closely with the Lead Character Artist to define and maintain art workflows.
- Clearly communicate and document art production pipelines.
- Provide guidance to artists encouraging best working practices and strong asset organisation.
- Proactively provide suggestions on how to utilise new technologies and tools and implement them into our workflow.
- Work with engineers to troubleshoot issues and find solutions to help further enhance our art pipeline.
- Provide clear guidance on technical performance constraints and help define asset budgets.
- Ensure the teams assets conform to the defined technical requirements.
- Create best practice assets and documentation to serve as guidance to other team members.
- Work with production staff to manage personal deliverables, ensuring they meet the defined objectives, defined quality bar, and schedule.
- Mentor and inspire character artists in the team.
- Maintain quality and consistency across your work to meet objectives, quality bar, and schedule.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of game engines (UE5 ideally), the technical constraints on characters and the challenges of game development.
- 3 years minimum experience as Technical Artist in the games industry.
- Significant experience with 3D modelling tools such as 3ds Max, Maya, or ZBrush, in a video game environment.
- Excellent technical understanding of character art pipelines, memory and rendering budgets.
- Strong interest in the latest advancements in video game graphics and visual trends.
- An excellent understanding of anatomy and art fundamentals.
- Strong communication skills with the capability to successfully work across multiple teams.
