An opportunity has arisen for a talented Senior Tax Advisor to join our Tax & Trust Compliance team based from either our Birmingham or Chichester office.
Your Role and What You'll Be Doing
The successful candidate will join Partner Liz Beadsley, a chartered tax adviser, who specialises in UK income tax and capital gains tax, including private residence relief, for wealthy individuals, individuals who are not domiciled in the UK, the statutory residence test and non-resident capital gains tax.
You will be responsible for dealing with complex tax cases - advising on CGT and income tax for individuals, predominantly HNW and UHNW clients, many with global interests. Exact duties will include, but not limited to:
- Dealing with HMRC disclosures on behalf of clients
- Advising clients on tax issues, and how to minimise their tax liabilities
- Taking full control and conducting of a number of cases/ clients including more complex matters
- Researching, analysing and interpreting tax legislation to ensure tax returns are correctly completed, and correct advice is given
- Ensuring a client meets all tax obligations by preparing and submitting tax returns, tax computations and other necessary form
- Dealing with complex estate tax returns
About You
We're looking for a Senior Tax Advisor who has the ability to give expert and authoritative tax advice in specialist and complex areas, thinks critically and enjoys solving problems. Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Chartered Tax Advisor (although ATT/qualified chartered accountant with extensive experience considered)
- Demonstrable experience drafting and reviewing tax returns
- The ability to research areas of tax & other topics/issues to maintain expertise
- Demonstrable experience working in a relevant tax role dealing with more complex work
- The ability to undertake analysis of complex tax problems, providing interpretation and making recommendations
- Leading and participating in tax practice development, particularly focusing on client referrals from within Irwin Mitchell
- Demonstrable experience dealing with residence and domicile issues and estate returns would be helpful but not a necessity as training can be provided
