Purpose

The support role consists of technical assistance to users, resolution, and prevention of problems in a 7x24 production environment. System capacity planning and recommendation of solutions to overcome resource constraints, systems level software installation and updates. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring the banks standards and guidelines are adhered to and may act as liaison with other departments for assistance when implementing new projects and initiatives.

Contributes to the overall success of the GTS Infrastructure Operation in Europe as part of a global team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • A solid understanding and exposure to network, storage, virtualization technologies is required to leverage different ways of positioning the implementation hardware, software, and operating systems within existing facilities.
  • Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Responsible for Level 2 Windows Operating System Support including, VMWARE and Cloud support where applicable.
  • Responsible for Level 2 Linux Operating System Support
  • Work with application, Operating System Support Teams, Business Owners, and Application Development Teams to provide the best support to our clients.
  • Ongoing governance of physical & virtual server infrastructure, according to bank policies & procedures.
  • Accountable identifying\resolving incidents & proactive problem management.
  • Mitigate Server vulnerabilities and configuration management activities take ownership without supervision.
  • Coordinates any planned change activities and change management process and implements to the bank standard.
  • Handles incidents, triage process, problem management and major incidents for the infrastructure and applications in your scope.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Dimensions

  • You will be working with multiple teams' members globally including L2 Windows Operating system support\L2 Unix System Support
  • Provide support for several countries globally including Canada, the U.S., Singapore, Hong Kong, London, etc.
  • Expected to provide support or carry out scheduled changes on weekend and after-hours escalation on-calls.
  • The incumbent must display a solid understanding of operating systems, operations practices, system monitoring and maintenance requirements.
  • Essential skills include:
  • Working knowledge of host-system technologies
  • Supporting up to 500 users across EMEA region
  • Ability to understand complex environments and data flow.
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills, combined with ability to determine appropriate escalations.
  • Work with non-technical users when required.
  • Ability to guide infrastructure architects and business analysts.

Education / Experience

  • Post-secondary education in an Information Technology stream or equivalent
  • You have experience with supporting 24x7 IT systems in multi-platform, multi-site, mission critical environments.
  • You are a strong communicator (verbal/written).
  • You have experience with Hyper-V, VMWARE and Cloud support.
  • You have experience with Windows & Linux Operating System Server Support
  • Depth knowledge and experience with tools monitoring tools.
  • You possess solid organizational and time management skills.
  • You are adept at working independently on projects and duties without constant supervision.
  • Working experience with virtual servers (VMWARE/ Clouds).
  • Working experience with scripting and automation tools would be an asset
