Who are we:

Ceres is a leading developer of clean energy technology, electrolysis for the creation of green hydrogen and fuel cells for power generation. Its licensing model has seen it establish partnerships with some of the world's largest companies, such Bosch, Doosan, Shell and Weichai.

Ceres' solid oxide platform technology supports greater electrification of our energy systems and produces green hydrogen at high-efficiencies as a route to decarbonise emissions-intensive industries such as steelmaking, cement, and future fuels. Ceres is listed on the London Stock Exchange ("LSE") (LSE: CWR) and is classified by the LSE Green Economy Mark, which recognises listed companies that derive more than 50% of their activity from the green economy.

Ceres is an inspiring place to work, and our people care deeply about our purpose, our technology, our partners, and each other. We offer employees the opportunity to collaborate creatively to solve complex problems and challenges, to experiment and innovate and push the boundaries of our technology, within a supportive culture and work environment that allows them to learn, grow, achieve great things and be the very best version of themselves.

As the size of the systems Ceres is working with has grown, we have the need of a process engineer to support and drive the design, deployment and operation of 'First of a Kind' Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems in large-scale process plants.

This role sits within the Systems Engineering Department which supports core technology development at component and system level, demonstrates system level technology, develops, and exploits system IP and collaborates with our partners to integrate and industrialise systems.

This is a hybrid position and can be based out of our Horsham or Brighton offices. Applicants for both full time and part time (4 days per week) will be considered. Please specify your preference in your application.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work with global partners to understand key drivers, requirements, and specifications for Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems
  • Technical Leadership of major work packages, including coordinating a team of experienced engineers and providing plans and estimates for engineering activities
  • Work with external contractors, customers, and suppliers to design, build, install, commission and operate Solid Oxide Electrolyser Systems
  • Support new process design, including component specification and selection, process calculations, mass and energy balance diagrams, application of industry standards and supporting HAZOP studies
  • Provide technical direction and support to product project teams, resolve technical issues and communicate and document solutions
  • Ensure engineering processes are implemented, maintained, and improved in accordance with organisational needs
  • Support junior engineers in the application of engineering processes and procedures

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

Studies show that some groups of people are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet 100% of the requirements. If you feel you have some (but not all) of the knowledge, skills, and experiences, we are still very interested in hearing from you.

  • BSc/MSc or BEng/Meng in Chemical/Process/Bioprocessing Engineering discipline or similar degree and experience
  • Experience in creating process flow diagrams, P&IDs and mass and energy balances
  • Experience working on the design and deployment of new industrial plants
  • Experience in the use of hazard analysis processes such as HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID and communicating output to project teams
  • Experience in developing and verifying system designs, using combination of virtual and physical test methods
  • Creative problem solving, individually and as part of a team
  • Experience working in an operational chemical, refining, gas processing, pharmaceutical, water or other process site
  • Experience in directing a technical team, either as a line manager or as a technical leader on a project
  • Knowledge of control complexities, in particular the impact on system design
  • Understanding of design fundamentals of equipment, piping, control & electrical/electronic systems
