Role

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining a highly secure and operational infrastructure for the benefit of our customers, employees and stakeholders. This will include interactions with our third-party infrastructure partners. To be successful, the person in this role must have strong technical knowledge with good decision-making, excellent communication skills, and enjoy working hands-on under pressure. An awareness or interest in Information Security is required to assist the Infrastructure Team in internal projects and communications to prospects and current clients. This position reports to the Lead Engineer of Infrastructure. Successful candidates will need to be passionate about the StarCompliance brand identity and understand the solutions that the company provides.

Responsibilities

    • A technical lead for all production, non-production and internal office infrastructure support of multi-tier web application environments, networks and enterprise systems that includes:
    • Cloud technologies for Hybrid environments
    • Laptop setups
    • User / group management
    • Office 365
    • Azure
    • DNS
    • VPNs
    • Physical & Virtual Servers
    • LANs, WANs, wireless networks, firewalls, switches and routers
    • Web Application Firewalls
    • Data Domains
    • Vulnerability Management Solutions
    • Endpoint Protection and Patch Management solutions
    • Asset Management solutions
    • Network monitoring and security solutions
    • Ensuring infrastructure is up-to-date on all security and system patches and updates, including server operating systems, virus definitions, IT administrative applications, and infrastructure firmware.
    • Maintaining client end point and systems inventories, network topology diagrams, and service catalogs for systems and infrastructure.
    • Researching new technologies, processes, and methodologies.
    • Monitoring and resolving issues and support tickets while adhering to change control procedures
    • Responding to equipment incidents at the remote data center facility
    • Take responsibility for implementing, operating, maintaining, or monitoring StarCompliance system controls.

Mandatory Skills, Knowledge or Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
    • Experience with the following technologies/software/applications and tasks is required:
    • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Intune (endpoint management, compliance, device provisioning, app deployment)
    • Azure/Azure AD/Office365
    • Laptop setup
    • Microsoft technologies including:
    • Active Directory
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • VS Code
    • WAF rules
    • Principles of least privilege, MFA, and identity security
    • Expert level understanding of the following technologies: IP Protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP); IP filtering and firewalling; Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS); Quality of Service; MPLS; Ethernet (STP, RSTP, .1q VLANs.).
    • Certificate Authorities
    • Windows Virtual Servers
    • Windows 10 / 11
    • Bit locker Encryption
    • PowerShell

Transferable Skills, Knowledge or Experience

    • Willingness to work from the UK office on a regular basis as part of a hybrid model.
    • Technical lead and team player with excellent communication skills (oral and written), excellent interpersonal skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems, strong negotiation skills, keen attention to detail, self-motivated and directed with a service orientation.
    • Flexible around working hours (for both out of hours support, and to cover time zone differences)
    • Ability to communicate complex network principles and server/storage concepts to non-technical and technical staff.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Can produce clear and professional documentation
    • Financial services experience beneficial, but not essential
