Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of the Trust's corporate data warehousing systems in facilitating Trust information needs. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring data integrity and availability of multiple system information to facilitate Trust reporting requirements to strict timelines.

The role will work closely with BI and Information system managers in providing data warehousing and reporting solutions. Providing systems expertise and support to Information analysts and Report developers that enable delivery of top class BI solutions.

Main duties of the job

Working within the Trust's Business Intelligence Unit, we are looking for a talented and experienced BI and Information systems developer to further develop the Trust's corporate Data Warehouse and BI systems. As part of BIU Systems team, the post holder will be working alongside other developers in provisioning performance information and support development of advance analytics to aid decision making within the Trust while ensuring data integrity and availability of multiple information assets. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively across organisational boundaries and help to deliver information solutions in a complex and time pressured environment.

To succeed in the role, you will have strong technical and problem-solving skills and be comfortable working with the latest analytical techniques and technologies. The successful candidate will have expertise in Oracle PL/SQL, MSSQL, knowledge of the MSSQL BI Stack and Oracle APEX.

Experience of working with health related data in the NHS will be advantageous but is not a limiting factor if the candidate has proven technical skills in Data Warehousing /Analytics, and a desire to learn NHS datasets. Key terms: ETL, SSIS, PL/SQL, T-SQL, SSRS, SSAS, PowerBI, Oracle APEX, Data Science, Python.

This post will be based at Denmark Hill site and there may be occasions when the post holder would be required to work at Princess Royal University Hospital sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will work closely with BI and Information system managers in providing data warehousing and reporting solutions. Providing systems expertise and support to Information analysts and Report developers that enable delivery of top class BI solutions.

The post holder will be working very closely with the Operations, Finance and IT directorates in guiding and implementing information systems related decisions. The systems include the Trust corporate data warehouse, Patient Administration system, Clinical system, Theatre system, Emergency Department system and any other that may hold reportable data.

The post holder will also play a crucial role in designing and implementing end to end automated performance reporting solutions. In the longer-term contribute to identify, evaluate and implement latest data warehousing and data science technologies for automation and predictive analysis.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of of experience
  • Specialist training in Datawarehousing or SQL

Desirable criteria

  • Specialist training in Microsoft applications
  • Specialist training in data science
  • EPIC Cogito training/accreditation

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience working in an NHS informatics setting
  • Knowledge of different database schema designs and use cases
  • Substantial experience writing complex relational and multidimensional SQL

Desirable criteria

  • Experience with EPIC DWH tools
  • Knowledge of API
  • Experience of XML translation

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria

  • Advance database development skills
  • Proficiency in SSIS and/or other ETL tools
  • Data modelling including use of SSAS
  • Methodical and organised, ability to work on own initiative
