Job overview

This role is based on the Respiratory wards at Glenfield Hospital. The role also includes weekend and bank holiday working across the other specialties on site including cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular.

This post requires a high level of personal responsibility and therefore we are looking for a person with a mature outlook, good communication skills, organisational skills and an ability to use their initiative.

The post holder will need to be motivated, organised and able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team. They will need to have experience of working with a variety of different people.

You will be expected, when competent, to hold your own caseload of patients, prioritising, completing assessments and devising treatment plans for Physiotherapy interventions. You will work alongside qualified Physiotherapists to carry out this treatment and discharge plan.

Interviews will be undertaken face to face only.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate needs to be able to work well alone and also as part of Team. They need to have good communication skills both verbally and non-verbally and have an understanding of Occupational Therapists and / or Physiotherapists roles. They need to be comfortable performing personal care tasks for patients.

The successful candidate will participate in local training to achieve all pertinent support worker competencies within the first 6 months of employment into this role. We would expect the applicant to demonstrate understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy interventions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care within the service under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional
  • To assist with basic administration duties.
  • Responsible for safe use of equipment relevant to service.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of equipment by service users, carers and family members, including fitting demonstration, and teaching of safe and appropriate use.
  • Ensure equipment is safe
  • Keep complete, clear, accurate and timely records, utilising digital platforms as required.
  • Communicate effectively through a variety of methods including the use of interpersonal, written and verbal and non-verbal skills
  • Report any incidents, accidents or complaints in a timely manner, taking appropriate action as necessary
  • Support the induction of new team members. Participate in training and support of less experienced support staff and students (including apprentices) in respect of tasks and responsibilities within scope of practice.
  • Actively participate in learning opportunities to maintain knowledge and inform practice. Actively seek feedback.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to a level 3 qualification. Or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Or willingness to obtain in 1 year
  • Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2

Desirable criteria

  • National Care Certificate

  • Experience in health and/ or social care settings such as employment, work experience or volunteering placements

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
