We have an exciting vacancy within our Pharmacy Purchasing, Invoicing & Homecare team. We are looking for someone who is hard working, enthusiastic and has excellent communication skills to join us. This is a permanent vacancy and full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a forward thinking and enthusiastic individual to join our small but busy pharmacy purchasing, invoicing & Homecare team.

Your duties will include:

  • The purchasing and receipt of all medicines on behalf of the Trust and external customers
  • Manual and electronic processing of all pharmaceutical invoices and payment claims
  • The ordering, receipt and invoicing of Homecare medicines in line with national standards
  • Dealing with queries relating to all purchasing and invoicing issues
  • Working in accordance with the Pharmacy's wholesale dealers and home office licences
  • Ensuring medicines are procured in line with the Department of Health and the Trusts strategies
  • Occasional cover of goods receipt area which may involve prolonged standing and heavy lifting
  • Ordering and invoicing of all Homecare medicines for the Trust

Excellent numeracy, literacy and IT skills, as well as previous experience of working in either a busy finance, procurement or pharmacy environment are all essential for this role.

This role requires attention to detail and strong communication skills to ensure all medicines for the Trust are procured, received and invoiced correctly and on time.

It is a challenging but rewarding role which requires someone that has the ability to work in a pressurized environment, using their own initiative and is able to meet deadlines.

Candidates who are invited to interview will be required to carry out a basic numeracy and literacy skills test.

The Pharmacy Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals consists of over 140 members of staff. We provide a wide range of services including clinical support at ward level, a dispensary service, aseptic services, medicines procurement, clinical trials, medicines information and much more.

qualifications

Essential criteria

  • GCSE Maths and English (grade C or above) or equivalent. IT qualification

Desirable criteria

  • NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or AAT Intermediate level qualification

experience

Essential criteria

  • experience working in either a procurement or finance environment

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a pharmacy department and with Pharmaceutical computer systems
  • Electronic Invoicing and Finance Systems experience
  • Experience of Homecare medication within the NHS

skills/attributes

Essential criteria

  • Good knowledge of procurement and /or finance
  • Experience of using Microsoft excel and word in the workplace
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Problem solving skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English

Desirable criteria

  • Basic knowledge of VAT in the NHS
  • Drug contracting knowledge
  • Knowledge of medicines, forms, strengths and basic clinical uses.
  • Knowledge of Homecare Ordering and receipt
  • Knowledge of GDP within the NHS
