Join Cefn Carnau as a Senior Support Worker and provide care for people with severe learning disabilities, Autism and behaviours that may be seen as challenging; where you'll support and encourage service users to lead a full and valued life, enabling them to live more independently.

You'll be great with people - a real 'people person', able to communicate effectively - explaining yourself clearly in the right tone to suit the situation and be really good at understanding others (behaviours and expressions, as well as vocal). Having a good sense of humour and resilience, and a willingness to help residents with their personal hygiene are also important.

What you will be doing:

You will join an inclusive, supportive team that works well together to provide care to people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.

Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will use your excellent communication skills and experience as a Senior Support Worker with a background in Mental Health conditions to provide care and s upport people through their care pathway.

It can be quite a challenging environment at times, so a positive attitude, compassion, resilience and vigilance are important. But it is hugely rewarding to see people improve because of you; being able to do something today that they couldn't do last week.

You will be working on a 3-4 days per week, including nights and weekends, 39 hours per week.

As a Senior Support Worker you should:

  • Ideally have or working towards NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care
  • Have least 2 years experience
  • Have a valid UK driving licence (preferred to assist with community visits)
  • Be willing to support residents with personal hygiene
  • Have excellent people and communication skills, and a good sense of humour
  • Be able to deal with challenging behaviours
  • Have a positive and professional approach
  • Be reliable, flexible, hard-working and honest
  • Be local or within commutable distance

You must live in the UK and have the Right to Work in the UK full time. 20-hour Student and Skilled Worker Visa's cannot be accepted.

Where you will be working:

Location: Cefn Carnau Lane, Thornhill, Cardiff, South Wales, CF83 1LX

You will be working at Cefn Carnau, a Low Secure/ Rehabilitation service for adults with a diagnosis of a learning disability who may also present with mental illness, personality disorders and an autistic spectrum condition.

Our Treatment programmes aim to reduce the presenting mental health issues and offending behaviours in a Low Secure/ Rehabilitation setting where risk can be managed and reduced in order to allow patients to step down into less restrictive environments.
