The Capital Delivery Service is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of construction professionals, supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects across the council's capital programme.

Duties & Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes/skills in the following areas:
- Strong design and engineering skills, and openness to innovation and improvement.
- Good standards of literacy and numeracy
- Excellent organisation skills
- Ability to work under own initiative and also within multi-disciplinary design teams.
- A high degree of technical competence and construction knowledge.
- An ability to accurately survey and evaluate existing buildings for structural condition and produce high quality reports on the same.
- Wide and proven track record of working with architects to design, and obtain planning and building control approvals for projects.
- Proficiency in Autodesk and NBS design software, with a working knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years previous experience in a Structural Engineering role
- Ideally working towards Chartership with IStructE or ICE.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (experience of using Revit Structure and Navisworks preferred)
- Good written and verbal communication abilities, including preparing reports.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision to deliver projects, from start to completion.

About the Capital Delivery Service
Sheffield City Council has a strong Capital Construction Programme with an ongoing value of approximately £200m per annum. To ensure the highest quality delivery standards are achieved, the Capital Delivery Service has been created to drive ongoing improvements in performance, pace and quality of the widely varying projects within the programme.
The Capital Delivery Service employs 70+ staff in a variety of management, technical and professional roles and has an in-house Multi-Disciplinary Design Team that provides design services to a wide range of construction projects.
The roles and services provided by the Capital Delivery Service include:
- Capital Programme Management Office
- Programme and Project Management
- Cost Management
- Structural and Civil Engineering
- Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
- Architecture
- Work Assurance and Project Safety.
The Service is a fully traded service, charging fees for the services it provides and operating as a professional services consultancy within the City Council.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
