We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Senior Stroke Support Nurse to join our dynamic and innovative team

Main duties of the job

This role will involve working closely with the Stroke team, assessing patients in A&E and supporting the management of the stroke unit

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to develop their knowledge & skills in stroke care. This post will support the stroke services , assessing patients in A&E following the stroke pathways. You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in acute stroke care as well as managerial skills

You will need to be able to demonstrate key skills as an experienced nurse . You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and have the ability to work autonomously and as part of the team.

The post holder will have the following responsibilities.

To demonstrate leadership skills

To practice as a professional nurse, acting with confidence, authority and expertise.
To participate in the level 1 bleep rota for the stroke thrombolysis service.
To be accountable for the assessment of care needs: the development, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for a named group of patients.
To act as the patient's advocate, ensuring a caring environment - both physical and psychological.
To act as an expert resource on clinical practice and take a supporting role in the supervision of staff.
To evaluate current clinical practice and, through audit, lead a changing setting, maintaining and monitoring standards relating to clinical care delivery.
To undertake appropriate enhanced roles, following the necessary training, e.g. IV drug administration, ECG recording, dysphagia screening.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse

Desirable criteria

  • Appropriate post reg istration clin ica l q ual ifications e. g. Stroke, Genera l Medicine modules

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of post registration experience in acute Stroke Medicine.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of implementing changes in practice

Skills, abilities and competencies

Essential criteria

  • Broad knowledge base including stroke medicine and an ability to demonstrate an interest and enthusiasm for stroke care.
  • lV drug administration skills
