Senior Strategist: Campaigns

The role of the strategy team is to provide the evidence and the insights required to ensure our work is best placed to deliver that belief. We are looking for a senior strategist to help us win and deliver insight-driven strategies for all our campaign work. This work focuses on a number of different types of brief:
Customer focused campaigns for our clients primarily concerned with either:
o Changing perceptions
o Building awareness
o Changing behaviours
o Activating audiences
Sustainability engagement campaigns that typically relate to either:
o Creating more sustainable outcomes for society
o Helping clients communicate their sustainability strategies and positions
Report activation programmes engaging media, employees, partners, governments etc with our clients' strategies and performance stories.
Responsibilities of the role include:
Research and analysis
- Originate, brief and manage primary research engagements to either serve client projects or to build the reputation of RY.
- Work with a range of research and other agencies (such as media) to ensure that a project is grounded in evidence and that the parameters are set for success.
- Champion measurement across your work and persuade clients to embrace a spirit of continual improvement across all their projects.
Planning and strategy
- Prove yourself a recognised leader when it comes to the creative process, able to help others on their journey to master insight mining and application of the nested strategy.
- Write and run truly inspiring creative briefing sessions to ensure all participants feel excited and inspired to put their best feet forward in delivering amazing work.
- Be able to compile insightful and accurate portraits of key audiences and their needs and attitudes pertinent to your work
Campaign expertise
- Build and maintain a strong reputation in the market as a thought leader in campaigns through the thought leadership you lead and contribute to.
- Understand in depth the key issues, challenges and opportunities facing campaigns in the sectors you work in for your clients. For instance, becoming an expert in how the construction sector embraces sustainability.
Communications
- Be an expert storyteller, able to hold a reader or audience's attention in both word and voice across multiple channels.
- Be able to plan a communications campaign across the channels most pertinent to your offer, when considering, for instance, report activation, internal engagement, customer facing campaigns etc.
- Sell great story-telling principles to your clients.
Entrepreneurialism
- Work alongside client management to drive effective client planning, bringing clients into the process wherever possible.
- Design and manage great client inspiration meetings, adept at using tools like miro and populating them with multi-media.
- Bring clients together with other key voices in their sectors to explore opportunities.
- Start to explore how our approaches might be productised to improve profitability and effectiveness.
Management
- Manage up to three reports, giving them clear guidance and support to help them build their careers successfully at RY.
- Identify shortfalls in your reports and take the required steps to correct them or find alternative solutions.
- Play a key role in recruitment, managing selection and interview processes.
- Ensure your reports are meeting their billable time targets.
- Role-model best behaviours at all times.
Requirements
Campaign strategy
- Proven pitch winner / a real advertising enthusiast / a key contributor to thought leadership / a natural when it comes to client relationship building.
- Expert at authoring creative briefs to address variety of objectives: behaviour change / perception change / awareness building / audience activation. NB particular expertise in behaviour change preferred.
Creative process
- An experienced planner with strong experience in B2B and corporate campaigns who can navigate their way around the complexity of briefs that focus on multiple audiences and use the creative process to deliver a big, compelling idea that works for them all.
- Well-versed in interrogating briefs, undertaking or briefing in pertinent research, unearthing the best insight and defining the creative strategy.
Audience profiling / understanding
- An audience specialist with a host of proven techniques, models and partnerships to help us build exemplary profiles that we can work to.
- A strong experience of defining & understanding key audiences and adept at segmentation analysis / customer journey design / pen portraits etc
Campaign planning
- A strategist with strong media experience and excellent understanding of the digital media landscape.
- Expert at planning delivery of campaigns for a variety of audiences (customers / consumers / citizens / investors / employees etc) across multiple channels (paid / owned / earned).
Specific expertise in digital / social channels a must
Lots of experience of briefing / dealing with media agencies
Well versed in setting targets (including ROI) and monitoring performance against them
