Job Description

  • Transport East Sub National Transport Body hosted by Suffolk County Council, Endeavour House, Ipswich IP1 2BX - Hybrid
  • £38,223 - £44,305 pro rata
  • 14.8 hours per week
  • Fixed term or secondment for 12 months (funding)

Transport East is the Sub-national Transport Body for Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock. The partnership provides a single voice for our councils, business leaders and partners on our region's transport strategy and strategic transport investment priorities, working in close collaboration with the UK government.

Your role

  • Every day is different, and every day offers opportunities to develop and influence work that will deliver our priorities for the region.
  • The technical work areas in Transport East are diverse and exciting. You will work on a wide range of projects and play a key role in shaping the long-term strategic direction for rail within the Eastern region.
  • Now is an exciting time for rail, with the government's rail reform ambitions. The region has three active and passionate rail task forces and a work programme to develop the Vision for Rail in the East. You will support these groups and drive forward the work to develop our Rail Vision. You will coordinate with MPs, Network Rail and key stakeholders.
  • You will work with consultants to deliver rail outputs for Transport East and support the Wider South East Rail partnership to deliver strategic rail advice to government across three Sub-national Transport Body regions.
  • Integrated transport is key to delivering the Transport East Priorities and Goals. You will work closely with an excellent team across all workstreams, including all modes, wider connectivity and analytics.

You will need

  • to be self-motivated and strategically minded with experience in strategic and operational rail matters
  • strong critical thinking skills and be confident to present your ideas to inform the direction of work
  • the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences and be able to develop successful relationships with our partners and other organisations
  • to be both, comfortable to work on your own and enjoy working within a team.

  • We work remotely; meeting in-person in Ipswich a couple of days a month. There is also the opportunity to hot desk more frequently if needed. Occasionally ,you may need to travel to conferences, events and meetings in the region, London and other UK locations.
