Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Senior Staff Nurse or Senior ODP who will play a vital role in the patient journey through theatres and recovery ensuring excellent patient care is maintained throughout. You will form part of a friendly, supportive and innovative multidisciplinary team. We have a fantastically supportive education team that will ease you into an exciting, challenging and satisfying role.

As a Senior Staff Nurse / Senior ODP in Recovery at GOSH you will be part of a highly specialised team which performs over 10,000 surgical procedures a year. Many of the procedures we carry out are complex and cutting edge which means you will be working at the forefront of paediatric surgery both nationally and internationally.

At Band 6 level we are looking for someone with outstanding clinical, educational and leadership abilities. You will need to have significant paediatric Recovery, ITU or HDU experience. Critical to this role is the ability to support the learning and development of learners at a variety of levels. We are looking for someone who can act as a true role model and who is committed to promoting the highest standards of care to our patients and families.

Main duties of the job

  • To be a clinical expert within the specialty.
  • To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times.
  • Promote Family Centred Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring, clean and safe environment for the children, young people and their families
  • Ensure that each child or young person is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate supervision and support to members of the team
  • Support the provision of effective communication between all members of the multidisciplinary team, other hospital departments, relatives and visitors
  • Ensure quality care is given, by being familiar with agreed ward and Trust standards of care and to inform seniors, if the required standard cannot be reached.
  • To actively assist in the education and practical training of learners, junior staff and multidisciplinary team members at every opportunity, through formal and informal teaching.
  • To maintain confidentiality surrounding the child's admission and treatment at all times.
