Job overview
Riverside is home to our elective surgery hub - a 26-bedded multi-speciality fast turnover ward. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join us as a band 6 senior staff nurse. This is a fast-paced area and is home to several surgical specialties including General Surgery, Urology, Breast, Plastics, and Colorectal. In addition the ward supports a day case interventional radiology pathway and an intensive care step down pathway for our elective patients. Furthermore we are a highly sought after placement for student nurses.
We welcome applications from nurses with significant ward experience who are either already performing in a band 6 role, or are ready to take that next step up. As a band 6, as well as overall shift responsibility, you will manage a group of RNs and HCSWs under the watchful eye of the Ward matron. You will also be supported to explore development and improvement opportunities.

Main duties of the job
- Take responsibility for delivering safe and effective shift leadership of the Ward.
- Deputise for the Ward Matron when appropriate
- Provide specialist nursing care and support in the management of several clinical specialities. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
- Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
- Contribute to effective management of all resources needed to deliver comprehensive and compassionate nursing care.
