Job overview
Hammersmith Hospital is ICHT's specialist hospital based in East Acton and renowned for its strong research connections. It offers a range of services including renal, haematology, cancer and cardiology care, and provides the regional specialist heart attack centre.
We are seeking to appoint two Band 6 Senior Staff Nurses for Ward C8.
C8 comprises of 18 mixed cardiology and care of elderly beds. Pulmonary hypertension patients requiring assessment and ongoing treatment, heart failure patients needing stabilisation of their condition and TAVI patients' pre/post procedure are all cared for within this setting. C8 provides holistic care for patients who have completed their cardiac interventions and requiring rehabilitation prior to their discharge.
ECG interpretation skills are essential for these posts. Our band 6 team both lead and co-ordinate with multidisciplinary teams; Band 6s out of hours would be the point of contact and will hold the bed bleep for cardiology.
We are looking for experienced cardiology nurses who are knowledgeable, ambitious and safety focused. The successful candidates will put the patients at the centre of all they do, with a special interest in caring for older adults, patients with cognitive impairment and dementia as well as patients with pulmonary hypertension.
You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills as it is an essential part of the role - direct communication with the medical team, patients relatives and other members of the multi disciplinary team who are actively involved in the patients treatment plans.
The Directorate will offer further development that can be tailored to the successful candidate/s and include both leadership and clinical components.
Main duties of the job
- Providing high quality, effective, individualised nursing care to patients across all three sites by assessing their needs and developing, implementing and evaluating care plans without supervision.
- The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
- To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
- To support the ward manager to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients. Maintaining accurate clinical observations of patients, utilising nursing skills and competencies.
- To manage a group of Nursing Assistants and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate. Assisting in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and students, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
- To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated Nursing Assistants.

Education/ qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse - Valid NMC PIN
- Minimum of 4 years acute cardiology and 3 years CCU experience
- Relevant Specialist course CCU/HDU
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Degree level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of caring for level 1 and 2 patients in a coronary care setting or heart attack centre.
- Ability to manage a group of level 1 and 2 patients independently
- NIV/CPAP training/experience

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

- Able to manage complex discharges
- Pre and Post interventional procedure care
