Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver planned care to patients with advanced clinical skills.
  • Maintain a safe patient environment.
  • Act as a scrub or circulating nurse during invasive cardiac procedures.
  • Perform venepuncture, cannulation, and remove venous and arterial sheaths.
  • Assist in the safe transfer of critically ill patients.
  • Participate in on-call commitments as needed.

About Hammersmith Hospital: Located in East Acton, Hammersmith Hospital is a specialist hospital known for its research excellence. It offers a range of services including renal, haematology, cancer, and cardiology care, and serves as the regional specialist heart attack center.

Our Cardiac Cath Labs: With six cardiac cath labs operating Monday to Saturday, we provide a variety of procedures from simple diagnostics and treatments like coronary angiogram and angioplasty to complex interventional, EP, and structural procedures such as PCI of CTO, ablations, device extractions, TAVIs, and Mitral and Tricuspid Clips/TEER.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients
  • To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate them without supervision
  • To assist in leading and monitoring the performance of the nursing team
  • To deputise for the Senior Sister or Senior Charge nurse when required

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria

  • RGN with cardiac cath labs and/or cardiac day ward experience
  • Immediate Life Support
  • Cannulation and Phlebotomy certification / skills

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant Courses specific to specialty i.e., Cardiac Course
  • Advanced Life Support

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience in Acute Cardiac Nursing and Cardiac Cath Labs
  • Ability to scrub and circulate in various cardiac cath lab procedures
  • Experience of doing on-call shifts for primary / emergency cases, out of hours.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in cath lab / day coordination, working with MDT to ensure efficient flow of patients

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Able to work in a dynamic environment and deal with job demands and pressures
  • Ability to manage own workload; solve problems and use own intitiative

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledgeable of various coronary intervention, electrophysiology, device and structural procedures performed in the cardiac cath labs
