We have an exciting opportunity for aSenior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our Mainstream Team.

Main duties of the job

Band 4 - Paediatric Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

We are looking for a Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant within our Mainstream Schools Team. The successful candidate must have a passion for working with children and families and have excellent communication skills, proven administration and IT skills and be an effective team worker.

The post holder will be required to:

  • Manage a small team of assistants, providing support and supervision
  • Be responsible for timetabling the assistant time into schools
  • Manage the day-to-day questions that arise from the SLTA team
  • Lead the administrative side of the Schools Buy-in service:
  • Co-ordinate the administration for Central Training for schools
  • Maintain spreadsheets used to record therapeutic activity and collate data required by commissioners.
  • General administration duties, e.g. filing, sending out appointment letters, answering phone calls etc.

In addition to this, the post holder will be involved in some direct clinical work which will include:

  • Working with in schools with a range of children who have speech, language and communication needs.
  • Supporting Teaching Assistants in schools to run clinical groups and modelling intervention packages.
  • Making materials to be used in therapy
  • Supporting and being involved in summer groups
  • Contributing to audits

Job responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain data spreadsheets related to schools buy in and SEN services
  • To distribute and monitor the return of school contracts and to liaise with the contracts team at CNWL
  • To assist and support SLTs in day to day admin tasks as requested which may include:
  • Support with System 1
  • support with discharge process on system 1 and archiving
  • when required to type reports, minutes of meetings etc
  • to collect and input statistical information as required
  • To manage the administration associated with the following under the guidance of the Team Leaders:
  • Training (including Makaton)
  • Core Service
  • General Information to be sent to Education / health settings and parents when appropriate and followed up via e-mail/post/phone call
  • Schools buy-in contracts
  • Other Admin needs associated with new or developing parts of the Service
  • To cover the duties of absent assistants as directed by Team Leaders
  • To monitor stock levels of equipment, stocking up small storerooms as required and ensure documentation is maintained.
  • To order equipment via eProcurement
  • To prepare equipment for individual speech and language programmes as directed by the SLT
  • To assist in setting up sessions and recording of notes for therapists carrying out clinical 1;1, paired or group sessions.
  • Ensure any patient related documentation meets the standards set by the professional body in conjunction with Ealing Community Partners standards of note keeping.
  • To be responsible for own CPD, by attending:
  • any in-service training days
  • team meetings
  • care-group or other clinical meetings as arranged.
  • Ensure up to date knowledge of Information Governance
  • To attend Mandatory training sessions
  • Continual Personal Development Programmes as agreed with Team Leaders
  • To support SLTs in the placements of SLT Students in the following ways:
  • Induction training for students
  • Co-running groups/whole class/training sessions with students
  • Feeding back to SLT re: students work when co-working with them
  • To assist and support the Speech & Language Therapy Team in the provision of an effective and efficient service
  • To contribute to the overall management of the service and to maintain good communication at all levels within the community and with external agencies to ensure a co-ordinated approach to the care of each individual patient.
  • To provide a positive image of the speech and language therapy service and the Trust.
  • To observe confidentiality and data protection policies and procedures currently in force.
  • To work with the SLTs, SLTAs and the Clinical Service leads for Mainstream Schools.
  • To ensure the health and safety of self/clients.
  • To comply with the organisational and departmental policies and procedures within the Trust.
  • To carry out duties as required.
  • To participate in audit activities.
  • To use own initiative to tidy treatment/admin/resource areas and maintain cleanliness of the therapy areas.
  • To carry out any other duties as directed by qualified therapists in agreement with Team Leader
