Essential criteria
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

- Willingness to undertake training and CPD in areas appropriate to this post
- Ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to participate in in-house training
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act for at least 5 and a half years and practical experience in the use of Mental Health Act
- Good working knowledge of the mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- At least 12 years experience since primary medical qualification, of which least 6 years in adult psychiatry
Desirable criteria
- Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
- Publication of original research
- Management training
- Completed training as Clinical and Educational Supervisor, and experience in supervising medical and non medical colleagues
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
- Autonomous clinical practitioner
- Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
- Ability to motivate and develop other medical colleagues and other MDT members
- To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust as a whole
- An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Post holder will need to take initiative and work in a self-directed manner.

Desirable criteria
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
- Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post
- Experienced in clinical research and / or service evaluation
