We are currently welcoming applications for a Band 7 Dietitian to join our team to cover maternity leave in our Diabetes Services. Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years experience of which 1 year must be specific to Diabetes.

The successful applicant will be based at University College Hospital, part of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide a clinical service to patients attending a combination of face to face, video, and telephone outpatient clinics, to include Gestational Diabetes, Type I and Type II Diabetes. DAFNE experience and accreditation would be desirable. There is the opportunity to undertake quality improvement and service development working alongside our other Band 7 Diabetes dietitian.

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Four year degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
  • HCPC registered

Desirable criteria

  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or equivalent association
  • Post registration training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Post graduate study in specialist area of dietetics e.g. PENG course, paediatric/renal modules

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Three years post registration clinical experience
  • This must include at least one year experience in the specialist area of dietetics

Desirable criteria

  • Involvement in relevant specialist interest group

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Awareness of need for confidentiality and issues of consent

Personal and People Development

Essential criteria

  • Experience of training student dietitians/other HCPs

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in the support and development of junior members of staff
  • Teaching on degree (or higher level) / professional course

Ensure the risk of infection to self, colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors is minimised by:

  • Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
  • Completing all required training and education (both via e-learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
  • Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal
  • Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.

Health, Safety and Security

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge & understanding of clinical governance and risk management and relevance to dietetics

Quality and service improvement

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in project management

Information collection and analysis including IT skills

Essential criteria

  • Anthropometry skills
  • Experience of conducting audit and/or research, including the ability to analyse and interpret statistics
  • Computer literacy

Other requirements

Essential criteria

  • To manage the physical effort of working between hospital sites, frequently moving up and down stairs, standing for long periods of time and carrying heavy folders.
  • To manage working in unpleasant conditions such as environments where there may be unpleasant sights, noises, smells and temperature fluctuations e.g. hospital wards
