JOB TITLE

Senior Solicitor/Associate (2-5 years PQE) - Disputes/Commercial Disputes & Claims (Liability Claims Defence Team)

JOB PURPOSE

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor/Associate to join our growing Liability Claims Defence team which sits within the Disputes practice area. The team is band 1 ranked for defender personal injury work by Legal 500 and is part of the wider band 1 ranked Insurance sector group at Brodies. The team acts on behalf of insurers and their policyholders, corporates and the public sector in the defence of cases in the Court of Session and Sheriff Courts. We are known to act in the most high profile litigations in the Scottish market, including those reaching the UK Supreme Court and multiple pursuer class actions.
In this role, you will manage your own case load and assist senior members of the team on our most complex work including major loss and fatal claims. Work will cover a variety of defender personal injury claims including those arising from road traffic incidents, workplace injury, incidents on third party property, injuries suffered during leisure pursuits and illness when on holiday. You will have the opportunity to assist with non-contentious advisory work, the provision of pre-action advice and with the mentoring of junior colleagues.

CORE TASKS

  • Ensuring the delivery of high quality, comprehensive and accurate legal advice to clients
  • Providing assistance on large and complex motor, public and employer's liability claims in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session
  • Handling your own caseload comprising the defence of motor, public and employer's liability claims in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session but also non-contentious advisory work
  • Written and oral advocacy
  • Development of your own business development plan and actively participate in the business development of the team
  • Participation in the team learning and development programme
  • Be aware of Brodies' information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Works effectively with other team members, and able to work as part of a team on larger cases/projects
  • Can demonstrate experience in liability claims defence
  • Excellent case management skills - takes responsibility for their own caseload, complies with client SLAs and meets internal and court deadlines
  • Works to understand the team, the practice area and the firm's key clients, the industries they operate in and the challenges they face
  • Has strong drafting skills and works in a logical manner
  • Provides client advice that is presented to the highest standards and tailored to the client's needs
  • Maintains regular contact with clients and shows understanding of the priorities for the client
  • Communicates in a confident, clear and relaxed way
