Senior Solicitor (2 - 4 years PQE) / Associate (4+ years PQE) - Real Estate / Commercial Property

JOB PURPOSE

We have an opportunity for a Senior Solicitor or Associate to join the real estate practice area working as part of a team that focuses on international and UK market leading retailers, hotel operators and private equity investor owners.

This is a fast-paced role within a large team and the successful candidate will have exposure to clients on a regular basis. The Team are involved in many of the most high profile deals in the Scottish market.

The wider real estate practice at Brodies is top ranked by the independent legal directories Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500 and is regarded by market commentators as the leading practice in the Scottish market in recent years.

The role holder will gain a varied and interesting commercial property experience ranging from:

  • Acting as Scottish advisor to an exciting array of household named retail and leisure clients.
  • Acting for a variety of high end hotel owners and operators
  • Advising domestic and foreign Private Equity advisors on their Scottish investments.
  • Working with a variety of English and International firms on cross border deals
  • You would be exposed to the full range of both landlord and tenant estate management transactions, building relationships with multiple clients and agents.

Ultimately you will become a key team member of Scotland's biggest real estate practice and be available to assist the wider real estate practice area in completing some of the biggest and most high-profile property projects north of the border.

CORE TASKS

  • You will have a vital role in a busy team that lets you learn from and with your colleagues and be involved in new transactions from an early stage.
  • Involvement in drafting and negotiating land contracts such as leases, development agreements, purchase and sale contracts.
  • You will gain an in depth understanding of the sectors our clients are working in, from both a legal and commercial perspective. As part of that, you will develop sector specific vital knowhow across the hotels sector and the retail and leisure markets.
  • Review, analyse and report on titles and you will be encouraged to develop a highly commercial approach to the advice you provide.
  • Work closely with our colleagues in the planning team and many other practice areas across the firm, in particular with the corporate, tax, banking and construction teams in particular.
  • You will become a valued advisor to busy property professionals who look to you for quick solutions to ensure they meet their targets.
  • Involvement in business development activities and firm initiatives including Brodies Academy.
  • You will be encouraged and helped to build your network of contacts, to contribute to the firm both formally and informally, and to develop your career path.
  • Be aware of Brodies' information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • An interest in the property industry and its drivers and to show initiative in furthering your understanding of the property industry.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn, quick thinking and commercial pragmatism.
  • Good attention to detail but an ability to keep a commercial perspective.
  • A positive, can-do attitude along with a sense of fun.
  • A desire to speak to people, to pick up the phone and not hide behind emails.
  • The ability to adapt in a fast-paced working environment.
