About the Team

We are seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Children with Disabilities Team, a specialized service committed to supporting the most vulnerable children and young people in North Somerset. Our team is dedicated to understanding the unique challenges faced by children with disabilities, ensuring that our support is tailored to meet their complex needs. We are driven by a strong ambition to improve outcomes for all children and young people, focusing on building meaningful relationships with them and their families through a creative and individualized approach.

About the Role

As a Senior Social Worker, you will be a key leader within Childrens Services, providing expert guidance, mentorship, and continuous professional development to your team members. You will manage a reduced caseload, allowing you to focus on mentoring and providing high-level support to your colleagues.

Your role will involve direct service delivery, offering technical support to develop and empower your colleagues, and providing professional consultation for the most vulnerable families. You will lead by example, offering direction and support to your team while setting the standard for best practice.

This is a permanent role with the flexibility to work full-time or part-time hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to team members.
  • Step in for the team manager when needed.
  • Lead on specific cases, particularly those involving families with multiple needs.
  • Supervise and support the professional development of other team members.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

About You

To succeed in this role, you should be:

  • A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, with a deep commitment to working with children and their families to improve their outcomes and keep them safe using a strengths-based approach
  • Knowledgeable about relevant childcare legislation, including a thorough understanding of Working Together to Safeguard Children and fostering regulations.
  • Skilled in building effective, trust-based relationships with children, young people, and their families.
  • Dedicated to developing purposeful, outcome-focused relationships with families based on partnership and mutual respect.
