Qualified Social Worker - Portsmouth Carers Service

Salary: Higher Grade: Band 10: £40.220 to £44,428 per annum (£32,610 - £36,022 for 30 hours)

37 hours per week, although will consider 30 hours - please state on your application the hours you are applying for.

The Service

Through Health and Care Portsmouth, a partnership of local organisations, we are working together to change the way we provide health and social care. Our vision is to support people to live healthy, safe and independent lives by developing and offering services that are joined up and provided in the right place, at the right time. This post is based within Portsmouth Carers Service located at Portsmouth Carers Centre.

What is the role

This role involves working with unpaid carers in need of support and the person that they care for, identifying the needs of both and creating an assessment of their needs and a support plan based on this. Working in a creative and personalised way you will complete the work directly of value to the carer and information gained directly from their carer, the person they care for and professionals who know them well.

Other duties will include:

  • You identifying the best resource to deal with any identified needs, (where this is not yourself) and, if you need to call on other resources to support you to meet these needs.
  • Case work decisions will be informed by evidence.
  • Working autonomously and be responsible for managing your caseload and maintaining case records that demonstrate that your practice and actions are Proportionate, Legal, Accountable and Necessary.
  • You will need to have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • You will receive supervision and support and be expected to attend regular team meetings including service-wide meetings as a representative of Portsmouth Carers Service.
  • You will be required to supervise staff in different roles who undertake Care Act assessments and other statutory duties as well as day-to-day management tasks.
  • The safeguarding of adults with care needs is an important and integral area of your work as will be the implementation of the safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • You will be fully conversant with statutory legislation and guidance and demonstrate that you implement this in your day-to-day practice.
  • You will contribute to service development and project management.
  • You will maintain a portfolio of Continual Professional Development in line with Social Work England guidelines.

What you'll need to succeed

You will need a qualification in social work i.e., Dipsw, MSc, CQSW, CSS and be registered with Social Work England as a social worker with substantial experience as a qualified social worker. You will have knowledge and understanding of the needs of unpaid carers and with the ability to be an advocate for the voice of the unpaid carer.

You will have a thorough understanding of the legislation that governs the adult social care role and a comprehensive awareness of practice to safeguarding adults. With a knowledge of Adult Social Care eligibility criteria you will have excellent assessment skills with the ability to advocate for users and carers using a problem solving approach. You will have good negotiation skills and will be a good communicator with the ability to deal with conflict. You will be able to work on your own initiative, organise your workload whilst being able to cope with a case workload efficiently and effectively.
