We are looking for a highly motivated individual for a fixed term contract (secondment will also be considered) to undertake the role of Senior Sleep Technologist to lead a well established team.

This role is part of a site based team responsible for the operational delivery of Sleep Services by contributing towards efficiency & productivity initiatives, delivery of utilisation and key performance indicators, undertaking Quality improvement projects and delivering outcomes to Clinical and Operational teams.

The role will include leading and supporting the clinical teams on site to deliver activity in line with local and national guidance and support Operational and clinical management team.

In addition to management responsibilities, your clinical responsibilities will include delivering diagnostic care to adult patients with sleep disorders, including but not limited to, diagnostic work with Actigraphy, full inpatient Polysomnography, Multiple Sleep latency Tests and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests.

Main duties of the job

  • Managing and undertaking diagnostic tests for patient's with sleep and breathing problems
  • Provide Clinical Education and Training to members of Sleep Disorders Team
  • Lead and organise intra-departmental training, audit and Quality Assurance
  • Support and deputise for Matron in line management capacity

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Take an active role in the co-ordination of IQIPS accreditation to improve quality of patient care and service delivery.
  • With clinical expertise, assist in the training and development of technical staff, working collaboratively with the Consultant Technologist.
  • As part of the senior MDT, ensure patient literature, website and others forms of information are available, maintained and kept up to date.
  • Support the Sleep team in assessing and delivering complex health needs for patients, enabling them to review and evaluate treatments and care provided.
  • Proactively seek feedback on patient and public experience in order to address concerns in a timely manner and build on success.
  • Support Matron to ensure that coverage of Friends and Family Test
  • Support Matron to ensure the department environment is safe, clean, comfortable and well maintained in line with patient and public expectations.
  • As part of the senior MDT, to be responsible for ensuring that consistently high standards of customer service are delivered.
  • Communicate service- related and specialist clinical information to managers, staff, patients (who may have sensory, physical or learning disabilities), carers and external agencies, some of which will be complex and require negotiating, persuasive, motivational and reassurance skills
  • Ensure effective communication to manage change alongside the ITAPS management team.
  • Take necessary steps to resolve conflict as speedily as circumstances allow and ensure feedback and planning for the future occurs
  • Through effective communication, disseminate information across the Sleep Team and within ITAPS and other CMGs
  • Take an active role in Clinical Meetings and the Sleep Management Team, including but not limited to organisation, chairing and planning.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to Degree Level (Sleep/Science/Respiratory physiology or equivalent)
  • Willingness to undertake further training related to role

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of experience in Sleep Medicine
  • Experience of managing a Team

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience in Appraisals of staff and sickness management
  • Proven ability to develop multi-disciplinary working
  • High Level of clinical expertise

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in participating in audits with ability to action results
  • Knowledge of clinical risk management

Communication/Analytical Skills

Essential criteria

  • High level of verbal and written skills
  • Prioritise and manage own tasks and workload
  • Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service.
  • Effective communicator and negotiator with Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Experience of Team Leadership Management

  • Experience of organising and chairing meetings
  • Experience of writing Standard Operating Procedures

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
