Job Description

The Senior Site Engineering Manager (SSEM) oversees all aspects of the site's critical physical infrastructure and ensures that all activities carried out on the site are done with high quality and without negative impact on internal/external customers. The SSEM provides the technical expertise to plan, coordinate, and manage the Data Centre's equipment, systems, and infrastructure to ensure operational excellence; with safety and reduction of risk being of paramount importance. The SSEM actively guides the engineers and suppliers on-site, helps & supports where needed, and checks the quality of work. The SSEM actively contributes to a standard way of operating the sites by complying with the standard and using a controlled change process to continuously improve the standard. The SSEM is involved in improvement projects and serves as a second level of support for more complex issues. The SSEM works with various experts, including design and construction, and manufacturers, and is directly responsible for safety on the site.

Latitude: The position reports to the Data Centre Manager (DCM) and oversees the work carried out on the site. Is responsible for internal contacts mainly with Service Planning and Service Design & Implementation and external contact with suppliers and customers.

Level of Impact: The SSEM works closely with the DCM to ensure the site is available and runs efficiently.

Budget: No direct budget responsibility

Key roles & Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Site Engineering Manager (SSEM) is a deputy to the Data Center Manager
  • The Senior Site Engineering Manager (SSEM) leads the team of Site Engineers
  • The SSEM is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and overseeing all mechanical/ electrical operations, maintenance, and energy management programmes. Ensuring risk is minimised and all works are compliant with safe systems of work.
  • Is responsible for the kickoff & management of jobs on the site and that all activities are carried out and conform to company policy, standards, and operating instructions. • The SSEM will ensure compliance with applicable all local codes, government agencies, ISO standards 9001, 14001, 27001, 50001, and all other DLR directives as they relate to building operations. The SSEM is responsible for complex maintenance jobs.
  • Act as Senior Approved Person for the site,
  • The SSEM is involved in infrastructure projects on the site.
  • The SSEM is responsible for in conjunction with the DCM change approvals and incident management.
  • The SSEM can be a specialist in specific areas and consequently be asked to support engineers/sites for specific issues/projects.
  • Responsible for Alarm Management and improvement of the effectiveness of alarms. • Participates in site tours for customers on request of Sales, Service Design and Service Delivery
  • The SSEM will be involved in training colleagues in specialist areas
  • The SSEM is responsible for the handover between Service Implementation and Service Operations and checks, approves, and accepts all completed installation works from the Service Implementation Function.
  • Ensure that reactive and preventive maintenance activities are appropriately balanced; monitor current and deferred maintenance backlogs; adjust priorities and/or resources as needed and ensure that deferred maintenance is adequately documented.
  • The SSEM is the escalation point for all incidents which cause or may cause disruption, reduction in the quality of services, or breach of SLAs including the lifecycle of incidents to eliminate or reduce the impact of future incidents.
  • Executes the local maintenance plan and identifies areas of improvement in maintenance policies.
  • Line management of resources on the site, reviews available resource capacity versus workload. Raises operational challenges.
  • Accountable for ensuring all staff and subcontractors receive a full site induction before starting work on site and ensuring that procedural, technical, and safety requirements are being followed.
  • Keeps track of the maintenance and customer activities and provides regular updates back to the Data Centre Manager and Service Planning
  • Utilises maximum capabilities of CMMS control system. Ensures that all appropriate data is entered into the CMMS system in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate development of and/or maintain as-built drawings with support from the Service Design team.
  • Coordinate maintenance efforts and build relationships with all critical vendors. Track all vendors' performance through KPI and regular meetings.
  • Adhere to the QHSSE Responsibilities Matrix
  • The SSEM will be part of a call-out roster where required.

  • Position reports to the Data Centre Manager and has key interfaces with all other Operations Departments
  • Understand the engineering design and operational aspect of each building system

  • They will have extensive experience and detailed knowledge of the operation of plant/services for which they are responsible and have a good, detailed understanding of the full campus infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years' experience working in mission-critical mechanical & electrical environments within a large company, IT/Telecoms industry preferred
  • Bachelor-level education in a technical/engineering field • Experience in data centres or a similar environment is essential
  • Knowledge of key infrastructure components of DCs (like UPS's, Generators, and Cooling systems)
  • Ability to read and preferably work with Electrical and Mechanical diagrams
  • Experience with maintenance and maintenance systems
  • ITIL and/or Service Now experience is preferred but not essential
  • Can prepare & present relevant information in front of all types of audiences
