Hammersmith Hospital is ICHT's specialist hospital based in East Acton and renowned for its strong research connections. It offers a range of services including renal, haematology, cancer and cardiology care, and provides the regional specialist heart attack centre.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our growing workforce. We have 6 cardiac cath labs, which opens Mondays to Fridays, from 0800h to 1800h. Due to service expansion, we will be running one GA list on a Saturday making our Electrophysiology lab a 6-day service. You will be joining a visible and innovative cath lab leadership team, where you will be closely working with another Band 7 nurse and a Clinical Practice Educator to ensure optimum experience for our patients, staff and other stakeholders. You will be expected to take on administrative and clinical responsibilities within the Cardiac Cath Labs, Day Ward and Recovery. You will be supported by the Cardiac Cath Labs Manager to achieve necessary skills to deliver your role effectively. Opportunities to take on a weekly off-clinical admin role is expected once the new cath lab establishment is fully complemented.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Sister / Senior Charge Nurse will be a vital member of the nursing leadership team who will have primary responsibility for ensuring the Cardiac Cath Labs and Day Ward has a transformative and progressive working environment for all members of the nursing workforce. The post holder will support the Cardiac Cath Labs Manager in leading and supporting the development of Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers, pre and post registration Nursing Associates and student nurses, and Registered Nurses in the department. The post holder will be working closely with another Band 7 nurse and a Clinical Practice Educator to ensure optimum experience for our patients, staff and other stakeholders. The post holder is expected to take on administrative and clinical responsibilities within the Cardiac Cath Labs, Day Ward and Recovery.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered with NMC
  • Mentorship course / Assessor's course
  • ILS trained
  • Degree in Nursing

Desirable criteria

  • ALS trained
  • PGC courses relevant to specialty

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Cardiology/clinical experience in practice post registration
  • Experience of collaborative working with MDT

Desirable criteria

  • Cardiac Cath Labs/Day Ward experience in a Band 6/7 role
  • Rostering, Appraisal, Sickness and Performance Management

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent and effective communication skills
  • Evidence of proficient cath lab skills i.e. sedation, scrubbing and circulating for procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of reflective practice and how to implement this
  • Basic IT and computer skills

Desirable criteria

  • Quality improvement knowledge based on audit findingsvv
  • Audit experience
