Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will be responsible for the daily clinical operational management of the
Outpatients Service, ensuring the safe and effective day to day running of the departments.
They will be required to work in partnership with Clinical teams, the Outpatients administrative teams to ensure that the service meets the needs of patients and is responsive to complaints/feedback.
The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and professional development for the nursing, support workers and other multi-disciplinary members within the area. They will provide professional advice and support to the whole multidisciplinary team in caring for patients within the outpatient setting. The post holder will be responsible for working with the
Matron and clinical lead in the development of the outpatient service, exploring opportunities to provide the service in community settings and amending the models of care (e.g. the development of one-stop services).
The post holder will lead on the delivery of high quality compassionate care and for further improving the patient experience, through proactive professional leadership.
The post holder will need to be able to provide this whilst utilizing the nursing workforce in a cost efficient and effective way so as not to compromise clinical care standards.
The post holder will also provide nursing leadership for implementation and evaluation of all education, training and development of staff. They will develop, implement and evaluate policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of patients attending the department with minor, major and/or life threatening injuries and illness. They will be responsible for the interpretation of and maintaining compliance with Trust policies.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Post Registration Qualification in Relevant Nursing Field
- Masters qualification or working towards
- Completed or willing to undertake management qualification
- Mentorship
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Masters Degree level in health related subject or leadership and management or can demonstrate evidence or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in managing and outpatients department and clinical expertise in a range of specialties
- Budget and resource management experience
- Operational management knowledge and skills
- Sound track record of effective clinical leadership and management of change/project management
- Evidence of continuing professional development in key areas - clinical practice, development, education and training
- Leading Audit
- Ability to manage performance, capability, sickness, grievance and disciplinary processes
- Experience of working at band 7 level
Desirable criteria
- Business planning management
- Band 7 experience preferably in an outpatient setting
