Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct,
Trust Policies and Procedures - To act as an expert for the care of neonates/infants, providing effective leadership and acting as a positive role model
- To set agreed standards of nursing care and to monitor them and take action to improve if necessary
- To communicate effectively with patients, their parents/carers and all healthcare personnel
- To promote a holistic and multi disciplinary approach to care, ensuring continuity of care
- In conjunction with senior nurses within the care group, to develop clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse - Adult or Child Branch
- Formal qualification diploma/degree or working at this level and able to critically analyse situations
- Post registration qualification in mentorship or ENB 997/998 or equivalent
- Current NALs certificate or willingness to undertake
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive clinical experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Able to demonstrate continuing professional development and commitment to professional development of others
- Awareness of current developments and national policy in own clinical specialty.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding policies and procedures and ability to refer concerns appropriately
- Can analyse and interpret information in an effective manner and exercises sound judgment
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Evidence of utilising evidence-based practice and writing guidelines
- Evidence of effective multi-disciplinary working.
- Has demonstrated leadership skills in a supervisory/team leader context
- Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and of being proactive in the management of change.
- Basic IT and computer skills
- Experience in budgetary management and control, or the willingness to acquire this
Desirable criteria
- Experience of audit.
- Previous involvement in quality initiatives.
